Never heard of it
Might have used it unknowingly, as most 2x4s are SPF (Spruce, Pine, or Fir)
If it's anything like lodgepole.....it's good firewood

Treated fence posts
4x4x8' pressure treated at Home Depot for about $10.
Treated 2x4s for cross pieces (rails)
Two foot hole with a couple inches of small round rock at the base has always worked for me
Round rock doesn't knit, allows drainage
Might consider using a sledge hammer and a large/long chisel
Square it up with a couple 2xs
Pour rock/concrete premix around edges
Tamp it down
Let it set up
Cedar for fence boards
1x6x6' at HD for $4
Use deck screws (not nails)
Deck screws do not rust/stain/bleed
Cedar is also very good with all stains
These are my recommendations
