Moments of Zen - Small Joys

Every day, good things happen. Sometimes I fail to take notice. Sometimes it's the smallest of things that bring the most joy.

Today, I'm happy about getting to day 1,000 on an app that I've been doing every day. It's like a meditation type app. 🧘‍♀️🙏

What small thing brought you joy today?

We have a young Indigenous female driver who drives us all over town to do whatever shopping we wish including banking and PO - she is always [almost always ] cheerful ; locally knowledgeable that can open doors and of course carries our heavy shopping bags off the van to our doorsteps but never comes indoors! - a moment of Zen perhaps!

I'm glad not to be a Zen Buddhist monk.

Life in a Japanese Buddhist Monastery
A typical day of a modern Zen Buddhist monk is as follows:

  • 4 am Wake up
  • 4.10 - 5 am Sutra chanting
  • 5- 7 am Zazen and interview with abbot
  • 7 am Breakfast of rice gruel, salted plum, and pickles.
  • 8 - 10.50 am Cleaning and work duties
  • 11 am Lunch, typically barley rice, miso soup, cooked vegetable, and pickled radish
  • 1 - 3.50 pm Work duty
  • 4 pm Light meal similar to lunch
  • 5 - 8.30 pm Zazen and interview with abbot
  • 9 pm Lights out
  • 9 - 11 pm Night sitting.

There is only one child on my street which has an average age of about 80. Her parents both work and she spends her days in daycare. She has an amazing treehouse/playhouse/swing set up in the backyard that's so clever and quaint it's all I can do to keep from going over and playing in it myself, but I've only seen her use it once in her whole five year years. In fact I only see her at all two or three times a year.

Yesterday at twilight she went by on the sidewalk in her pink Barbie mobile. Spring is here. Moment of Zen.

I have been doing this for years. There are small joys from within that occur all day. Thats what meditation is for. Finding a mindfulness attitude that allows life to flow.

My small moments of zen ( I try to find any all the time )

  1. Sharing a laugh with hubby
  2. Watching, petting and cuddling with the cats
  3. Watching nature and finding an interesting rock
Thanks for reminding me @caramel because right now (besides other problems in our life) I have a tooth/jaw pain so bad I am seriously considering a hammer. :censored:
How’s you tooth today Dust bunny?
Can you make an appointment?
Do you have any ora-gel? It’s an appointment that numbs the area. I hope you feel better soon.

Today I received a Food parcel from Scotland. Inside was various meats.. and pies etc..which are just not available here in the south of England... but inside was some rhubarb pies.. not the ones you might imagine, like a tart.. but these are made from Hot water crust pastry, and I haven't tasted them in 50 years...I'm overjoyed at having them...

Thank you for asking @PeppermintPatty . Still bad. I have an appointment Tuesday for a bone graft under/around the implant unless it is infected. It wasn't last week when he checked it to make the appointment. Today he called in anitbiotic and painkiller. Not that they are strong. So will see. Thanks for the suggestion. Will pick up some OraGel or something when I pick up the meds. Might need a gallon. o_O :)

Ouch! That sounds painful. A few years ago I had a cavity and it really hurt, I carried that Ora-gel everywhere. It’s great for numbing pain but it does need consistent application.
Just look for the gallon size. lol 😂 I hope you get some relief.

I learned a new calming technique from a youtube video. Super simple and helped enough to help turn the tide a bit. It was just closing my eyes slower for a minute.
Tlhere sure are a lot of useful, helpful videos on YouTube. I'm glad you have learned a new technique. It seems, for me, at least to be invigorating to discover new things on YouTube that help life go a little bit better.

@PeppermintPatty , thanks for you suggestion. I tried but it didn't help. Today I got the bone graft. Lost the implant. Will have to go through it all over again. Tried to get the dentist to do a house call for another shot tonight and he laughed.

Thank you for your concern. 🤗
I’m really sorry it didn’t help. Hopefully you can get an appointment soon. Tooth pain is horrible. Sorry the oragel didn’t work.
