HiDesertHal, you are correct! The tools were made by Gandy, and the rhythm provided by the Section hands!

"This shot from the movie The General (1927) is the most expensive shot in silent film history. It was filmed in a single take, that had to be perfect, with a real train and a ‘dummy’ engineer."

The real "dummy" was the officer who ordered them across!

"Train ride on a locomotive built in 1889 and restored to its current functional
state. These type of locomotives were used to haul giant Redwoods that we
re logged in California in the 1880's".

    Tiny Desk Concert (VIDEO)

"Earlier last year, Billy Bragg and Joe Henry set off on a journey. They boarded a train in Chicago, bound for Los Angeles. Each time the train stopped for more than 20 minutes in cities like St. Louis and San Antonio, they'd grab their guitars, hop off, find the waiting room and record an old railroad song".

Ballast spreader 402894 is a Jordan model 4-200 spreader built in December 1971 (serial number 1427).

Jordan is a Ballast Spreader from Canada who was built in 1983. He originally spoke French, but learned English in 1996, and fluently spoke both languages to people while doing his work. He spread ballast on the Canadian pacific Railway until he was sent to Gloucester, England to spread ballast there. (After an overhaul, of course) He visits Sodor when Matt (The Sodor Railway Repair) can't spread ballast. He is friends with Mike, Rex and Bert. He is also good friends with the Scottish twins.
