    Time to say goodbye

Sue was sitting by the dining room table rather sad and forlorn. She knew that this day would eventually come but now that it had....

"Sue, " I said, " We have to face the fact. After all 15 years is a very long time and that's way beyond the expected span.."

"I know, but it's really hard to let go. Charley was special. Was very good with us. I mean, we travelled together, the three of us, across Canada. Remember that trip?"

"I sure do. It was a fun trip but, hey, just think we can get another one..."

"I know, " Replied Sue, "But it will never be the same. I'm not sure I can let go."

"Babe, you have to. It's time. Do you want to come with me to say goodbye?"

"No. I couldn't . I'll say goodbye when you leave....."

I gave Sue a hug, got the car keys and headed for the garage, Sue following behind.

Got to the truck, opened the door and climbed in. Sue stood in the doorway waving and I think I noted a tear running down her cheek. She was taking this hard......

As I drove away heading for the final destination for Charley, I thought to myself there is no way we will EVER give a name to another vehicle.

Silly boy, you had me going there for awhile, thinking Charley had four legs....not wheels.

I thought the same thing as SeaBreeze. I had tears in my eyes until the end.

Over the years we have owned 41 cars and for 20 years I did not have a car of my own, I drove company cars. Some are not clearly remembered. Others were lots of fun. We are now down to 1 blue convertible that we enjoy.

I can so relate! When I traded in the first car I bought on my own, I had loved that thing, & I swear it had a sad look in its headlights looking at me when I left it behind & drove away forever in something else. Boo hoo!
