It seems like this forum is getting a bit stale.

Hari Om, y'all!

I'm not sure if it's me, or this forum. I can't seem to find many threads, lately, that have much appeal, for me. I used to be very interested in things, here, but now it seems that topics get recycled, endlessly, with the usual suspects posting their usual things. Maybe I'm just in a mood. We'll see what others have to say on this thread

Maybe you can add some interesting topics TG? :)

When I feel that, I back off for awhile
Usually it turns out to be me

Most times I think this forum rocks

Sure, some threads are redundant, but with such variety as here, it’s bound to happen.

This is obviously not a site to discuss serious matters. There are other sites which do have more deep-thinking folks. Unfortunately, those sites attract the nasties of this world, and things can quickly turn very unpleasant. The last site I was on was patrolled by the racist police, who jumped on people at the slightest excuse. This all makes it impossible to have a proper discussion about anything.

Personally I think you would go a long way to find a better site than Senior Forums, Matrix and SeaBreeze are very fair and never throw their weight about like some site administrators, just because they can

Obviously, members want different things from a site but I would say there is great choice of topics with something for everyone here, except of course politics which you can find on other sites, there are plenty to choose from

I agree with some of the others, take a break or come up with some ideas for threads that you would like to discuss.

I also agree that after you've been on any forum for a period of time you can usually predict what various people are going to say.

The thing that I've noticed lately about SF is more conflict, harsh replies, negativity, etc... from some of the participants over things that have little importance.

I hope the mood passes or you find what you are looking for.

Good luck!!!

I do take a break sometimes from the the "most recent" topics.
Every once in a while, I go to a forum category that I haven't been to yet or looked at in a while. Have found interesting recipes, travel ideas, and other fun information by doing that!

This is obviously not a site to discuss serious matters.

I would respectfully disagree, at least when it comes to personal things of a serious nature. Given the recent turn my life has taken regarding getting engaged as a senior, and the resultant changes that have happened or are going to happen, it has been a relief to be able to post here about how to navigate various issues that have arisen with soon-to-be step children, my fiancé’s ex-wife, household changes, etc. I have found the insightful, thoughtful responses to be hugely helpful.

If, on the other hand, you’re talking about serious social issues, I have no opinion. Many years spent on a large variety of forums have resulted in my own personal decision to never post about those.

As regards the forum becoming stale, it’s my opinion that a forum and ones association with it is like any other personal relationship. It’s not static, it will ebb and flow, wax and wane, and will return as much or as little as one puts into it. Too, I think it depends on what one wants from a forum. It could be nothing more than entertainment. Perhaps it’s a need to connect. Maybe, like for me, it’s a desire to want different perspectives on a variety of topics.

And finally, I think it depends on whether you’re a giver or a taker. ;) And I don’t mean that critically because there’s nothing wrong with either within the frame of reference I’m talking about. Some people read a lot but post seldom. Some, like me, read less but post a lot. I’m a motormouth, what can I say lol! My life motto is I make my own fun....and that holds true whether I’m on a forum, out dancing , hanging with my man, grocery shopping or anything else. I bring that life motto here too. So I personally don’t feel any lack here.

But that’s me.

Not only here but elsewhere too it often seems to me like debate over health and lifestyle choices has taken the place of politics. More & more I'm hearing about groups where politics (and religion ) are off the table.

But I have no fondness for People who often seem to be asserting a feeling of superiority over others because of the products they use or don't use, health related or otherwise, and their lifestyle choices. I don't care to debate them about whatever. I'm happy that they have found something that works for them, even if it isn't something I would do, but I draw the line when they denigrate something that works for me.

When something stops being fun, time to back off.

I agree with you Ronni. Many of us are here for friends and fun, but we all can discuss serious matters too, whether personal or otherwise.

Rosemarie you can be assured we are as "deep thinking" as you or anyone else.

yup

I’m strictly here for the cool down of the day

Fun things
Funny things
Light things
Pretty things

Sometimes things can get serious

Sometimes I’m the one to start them

….but that’s the evolution of a good forum

It isn't easy coming up with questions-I search the web for mine!-but without them there would be no forum.Wren is right about the admins not throwing their weight around like someone does on another site which caused me to take a break from it.On most forums-and I am on a few-Its only a small percentage of members who ask the questions. The majority prefer to just answer-or even just read.

Maybe that's why forums get stale....it's the same people who initiate a thread. We need some fresh blood...not me because I have strong opinions and always end up offending people. I prefer to add my twopen'orth to someone's else's thread.

With all due respect Rosemarie, going by your joining date, you are fresh blood !

Instead of criticising the site, and members who put in a lot of effort to create new topics, and adding your ‘twopen’orth’ to other members threads, you might try to come up with something yourself, I see you were a Librarian ? You must have some amusing stories to relate, let’s hear some ...

Yes, I am fresh blood...which is why I'm trying to tread carefully. I've just given up on two other forum sites because the admins were over-zealous. Of course, there are limits to what people should be allowed to post, and personal insults are a definite 'no', but you can't have a proper discussion if people are not allowed to give their true opinions on things.

For instance, I have lived in Africa for a number of years, living and working with the local people. Therefore, my experiences of the people of Africa is rather different from those who have never set foot in the continent, but have only known immigrants. However, when I mentioned the tribal rivalry I was branded a racist and my post was removed, which was ridiculous.

Britain also used to have different tribes, which was also the cause of rivalry and battles for supremacy, so there was nothing racist about my comment at all.

Maybe it's because I'm relatively new here but I think this site is interesting, informative and has new content on most days. I enjoy reading the conversations and occasionally contributing to them. All of the different perspectives help me see life from different viewpoints. Again, I'm saying all of this from a newbie's position.
