New guy on the block

Hi everyone,
I’m Steve, 63 3/4 and live just outside of Boston, MA. I’m happy to find this forum, looking to make a few friends along the way. I am working part time getting ready to retire at 65 or 67, depending on how I feel. Longevity doesn’t exist in my family so I want to enjoy myself more than I have in the past. The days of putting in a 60 hour week are gone as step one. I have many hobbies as I like many things but never really get passionate about one. I started baking sourdough bread about a year ago and got pretty good at it. Baking relaxes me but the bread I have to eat in moderation. Looking forward to participating in the conversations and getting to know some of you.

More difficult than yeasted bread and it takes a full day or 2 but the flavor is worth the time

Hi Steve, I'm new too. Congrats on the bread. Never tried sourdough but used to make focaccia using a pre-ferment. The longer it sits the better it tastes for sure.

Well welcome to you as well. Yes I love focaccia and make it quite often. Bread is so simple, flour, water, salt and yeast. You can even make levin by adding water and salt, lave it on the counter feeding it daily. After 7 days you can add it to the rest of the ingredients to make a great bread. Focaccia is a wetter thicker dough. Not much else. I love them both.
