yes I moan like most people if it gets very cold ' but I dont mind winter really' I find it a calm season -people dont seem so
chaotic' and going at a slower pace' love the fires and smell of wood burning from the chimneys when out walking ' like the idea of fallen snow crunching under foot ' and heavy misty mornings - as it seems to deaden noise...…….but it can cause chaos on the roads too...always liked it even as a kid - this is just about winter nothing else --do you cope ok with it ?

Yes I agree with all of the above!! I hated when I had to drive in it to work, but this will be my second winter with no need to struggle through the thick snow in the country lanes and on the roads through the woods to get to work, and I love it. Poor hubs still has to do it tho'..

My favourite thing is going to a village pub which has a roaring log fire on a cold crisp snowy sunny day.. we do that often. I've posted pics of that on here in previous years!!

Unfortunately much of our winter tends to be thick fog in the mornings and evenings in the rural shires, making for really dangerous driving.... and often much rain ...

In Arizona winter is the time to be outside, go to festivals, take a hike and enjoy the outdoors. Winter is theater season. We hide inside all summer trying to survive the 110F heat.

I can relate to this, living in New Mexico. We don't get quite as much heat as AZ does, but close. The summer heat traps me inside more than the winter cold does.

I much prefer the cooler weather. I have hardly been out during the past three months, as I dislike the sunshine and high temperatures. I know I'm not alone. I'm looking forward to the end of summer. I shall make up for lost time, getting out and catching up on everything. I love the colours of autumn, even though it means the trees will soon be bare again.

I like winter.....in Florida. I lived most of my first 30 years in the frozen North and I could hardly wait to get away from the winters. I'm just not made for the cold.

I did have an absolutely enchanting walk through the woods once in upper New York state in December. It was very foggy and a fine snow was coming down like powdered sugar being sifted over my head. I was walking through the pines. It was totally still and quiet. I felt like I was on the inside of a snow globe. Small doses of winter like that, I can take.

I'm liking winter less and less as I age (just turned 69). But it's more because of how I live -- I heat with wood in the fall and spring, and then coal in coldest several months in between. I used to cut my own firewood but I buy it now instead.

I haul the coal in my pickup, about 1,500 pounds per trip; I make probably four trips over the season. Once I get home I have to shovel it off into a bin. Then carry buckets in every day or two, and empty ashes about as often. It's getting old. I had central heat installed in 2010 (propane) but I rarely use it because it would cost a fortune to keep it as warm as I do with wood/coal. I hate a chilly house.

The upsides: My diet changes radically in the cold weather, getting into more comfort foods. I love to spend hours in the kitchen on the weekends during the winter.

And then the fall chill brings NFL football, which lasts all winter. It's the only TV sport I watch. If it was on during warm weather I would never watch it, as I'm outside most of the time.

And of course the change of scenery from season to season is nice.

I do enjoy cold weather, shorter days, and hot buttered most anything.:giggle: I don't like power outages, trees falling because of snow loads and scratchy sweaters though.

I have never loved winter, but I think I mind it less now that I am not working. Not HAVING to go out into it every day is a pleasure. Plus, it is a lot easier to layer up if you are cold than go the opposite if you are too hot.
I kind of wish I had a wood burning stove. I do love the smell of burning firewood. I am not an outdoorsy type, so I am planning my indoor snuggle up activities.
Today I went to lunch with two of my cousins, and we spent the time talking about what we were going to binge watch this winter. We were sharing suggestions with each other.

Why do so many seniors move to warm weather areas then, I wonder!

Having been born and raised where there are four seasons, I'm really a three season gal. I just don't care much for the heat and humidity of summer. Winter can be a terror or it can be magical. I took this photo last year looking out my front window on one of the days when it was magical.

I think winter is a calming time of the year. When temps can go to zero & trees lose their leaves, it signals the fact there will be a break in those noisy family get togethers to picnic, pitch horeshoes, play croquet or badmitton. Cost saving while calming, taking the kids or grandkids to the amusement parks filled with happy screaming kids are closed.

Not calming is when relaxing in front of the TV instead of hiking or biking because snow or ice knocks out the power for a few days. That can be offset by not leaving the house because roads are impassable until snow or ice removal is done.

But it's always calming when a light snowfall takes away the bleak look of bare tree limbs.
