Does anyone wake up with muscle stiffness?

This is what I am dealing with...arrrgghhh. My body has been tensed up for about 12 years when I went through a very challenging time in my life and I was pre-meno. I suffer from muscle tension and tightness (feel tightness in my face, jaw, head, neck, shoulders, etc. ) I am post menopausal. Did not suffer from hot flashes but I have muscle tension/tightness. I drink a glass of wine or two which helps a little. I also drink chamomile tea at night which helps me sleep. I am not currently on meds.

I feel like I am the only one in the world dealing with this:cry: Breathing exercise helps a little. Any other suggestions is very much welcomed.

This sounds pschyosomatic to me as you have described above. But please see a doctor...something else besides emotional trauma may be at play and then easily relieved!

Ah, if only we could all relax, huh?

Therapy, hypnosis, massage come to mind... especially massage!

Hope you can find relief!

I get massages from time to time, it does help. I have seen may docs when I first start dealing with muscle tension, I saw several docs...they were not a big help. One prescribed muscles relaxers, another antivan, another zoloft..etc. I tried a few things but I am not a med person. Thanks for the suggestions.

I also deal with Anxiety and panic attacks which is MUCH better than it was.

Something tells me I posted this in the wrong forum... Maybe someone will reply that can relate.. Oh well, I can say most days are better than others and there are numerous things that help. Thanks to everyone that has responded.

I wake up stiff and sore every morning, have done
for some years now, but a hot shower solves that
for me.

Hello...new here today. Yes I have been dealing with this for last six months.Very painful and have gone to doctor twice. Only says muscle spasms. Even my jaws hurt.
Anyway some days better than others.

Me too every single morning I have to have the heating pad on my back ... When I first get out of bed my legs are very stiff it takes a minute for me to not hurt when taking my first steps, after which I can walk as normal except for my back ..so the heat pad has to go on . All that said, I do have a history of lower back herniated discs... , so not quite the same as what you're facing but very painful and stiff first thing in the morning for an hour or so

This goes beyond normal morning stiffness for me. Only take it meds when I can't handle it any more. I have to use heating pad on back after making up the bed. So very frustrating.

I do and it gradually goes away. Might perhaps your mattress or bed be a reason for muscle
stiffness? Or the way you sleep? I feel pain in my hips and back.

I do think my mattress may be part of the reason but I was pretty tensed prior to us getting a new mattress. Our bed is pretty high so that may be why I may be a bit achy in the morning.

I pulled out my heating pad today... it does help a little. I have pain in my hip, not constantly but when I sit for a long period of time. I know its something in that area pressing on a nerve. Thank goodness, its not constant pain.

My heating pad helps me a bit. Same here, take meds when I can't handle it anymore. I take something, rarely if I can't sleep and dealing with anxiety.

A hot shower in the morning helps get me going. I need to use my heating pad more often.

I've taken Magnesium Citrate for a long time now and I do not take any calcium supplements. I am post-menopausal and only used Red Clover Blossom for hot flashes and the occasional night sweat.

Magnesium relaxes muscles and calcium causes tension in muscles, including in the heart. I currently am using NOW Magnesium Citrate powder, just put a small partial teaspoon in orange juice with my other supplements on almost a daily basis. Old thread that may give more info.

I take magnesium to increase elasticity in my body...helped lots...wake up not as much pain
I do too, been taking mag citrate for years now. For people who are sensitive to mag citrate and have loose stools as a result, lower doses or other forms may be helpful, like mag malate or oxide. What form do you use Bingo?

A BIG SHOUT OUT to all that responded. Thank you. I felt I was on that boat all alone but I knew with age comes a bit of stiffness. All in all, I am in a good place in my life and hopefully my muscle tension will catch up with how I feel mentally.
