And that's the truth. The first thought that came to my mind when I saw this post was that it reminds me of how the wearing of masks and other pronouncements surrounding COVID-19 are being handled today. In other words, some things never change.

Me, too, Pappy! LOL!
How heartbreaking. My boyfriend who died of cancer at the age of 45 smoked Marlboro Menthol. He looked like the Marlboro man.
Thanks for your understanding. I was with him when he died. It was one of the most intimate experiences I've ever shared with anyone. It was both excruciating and beautiful. How heartbreaking.![]()
Nothing could be anymore right. Thanks for your understanding. I was with him when he died. It was one of the most intimate experiences I've ever shared with anyone. It was both excruciating and beautiful.
My goodness, thank the heavens above for progressive change. In the church I grew up in, it was considered a sin to smoke. A person could not officially join the church, become an elder or a deacon if they smoked. Same with drinking. Of course it was also a sin to wear lipstick....
Some of the more fundamentalist churches still have a lot of prohibitions. My goodness, thank the heavens above for progressive change.
Yes, we know of people who don't drink, don't smoke, don't swear, and donate a percentage of their monies each month to the church they are involved in.Some of the more fundamentalist churches still have a lot of prohibitions.
Exactly. There is spirituality and then there is organized religion. I'm all for spirituality - the kind where one tunes in to what is. Organized religion is often about control.
Agreed. We couldn't go bowling or skating or dancing...etc, oh, and it was always a woman's fault if a man strayed. He was never at fault. I have a middle finger that's useful for my feelings about that.Exactly.
No thank you to control.
That's really sad. Is she still with you or did it take her out? Sometimes we all do things that are contrary to our good health. It's a matter of "name your poison." For me that poison is sugar in any form - that includes fruit and high sugar vegetables. I'm not diabetic, but the opposite. My mom smoked Camels and Kools two of the top killers. I believe she thought it made her look sophisticated until she had what her doctor said was the worst heart attack he had ever seen.
