Did you ever go camping? How much did you like it? How much didn't you like it?

I loved to go camping. Setting up the tent by the lake, with the chipmunks, the fire at night. Sleeping on the ground was not a happy experience. My ex was more like a wounded bear when she woke up. And you had to expect a certain amount of leaves and twigs in you food. I still remember my ex coming out of the tent looking to plug in her electric hair dryer. Did you ever go camping? How much did you like it? How much didn't you like it?

My first husband , (ugh!) and my second (good) late husband didn't like camping, so the only times I went camping was by myself. I spent almost a year camping all over Alaska by myself, but it would have been a lot more fun to snuggle in a sleeping bag with some big, handsome hunk!
When my kids were teens, I'd take them to Glamouth, dirt biking and I went to Mexico and to Yosemite by myself and camped out.
After my husband died, and I finally got over the grief of him, I started thinking, I'm too old to camp out, But, you know what?
I'M NOT! Next Spring, I'm OUT THERE!

If you mean in a tent - ONCE and that was more than enough. I'm not that kind of "camping" type. My idea of camping is a 4 star hotel at the base of a mountain by the side of a lake. No waking up with 10 pairs of smelly feet in my face eating half burned food cooked over a campfire or smoking a cigarette in the rain. Bleh! Yuck, yuck, yuck!!!!!!!!

I think you understand my feelings. :ROFLMAO:

Loved it but I enjoyed interior camping more than regular camping where you canoe through lakes and rivers, carrying all your own stuff. Swimming with otters, fishing in the rivers, cooking on fires, and sleeping under the stars while listening to loons. Total freedom where I can immense myself in the beauty of natural surroundings. What’s not to like? There’s nothing quite like it. Since my husband can’t swim he’s not quite as enthusiastic about some parts.... water related. šŸ˜‚ Lol

I love camping but we don't do it that often. We usually go two to three times a year, sometimes more than that. We're tent campers, but we have a king size inflatable mattress, memory foam and pillow top so we are extremely comfortable at night.

I used to go backpacking in my late teens and early 20's and enjoyed that as well. I only did it one to three times a year but I loved it.

When our sons were younger we'd do trips where we'd camp a couple of nights and then stay in a hotel or motel a night before camping again the next night.

We went camping just this last weekend with my wife's mom who had a separate tent.

Here are a couple of pictures from the trip.

Have only done it three times.
Once with my ex-wife, back in 1976 and it was simply "ok". It was by Shasta Lake in northern California. She was much more of the "outdoor-wilderness" type than I was.

Another time was in a dirt parking lot by a rodeo arena in 1988. One of my rodeo buddies was to compete the next day, so we built a very small fire and slept in sleeping bags by the fire. Didn't get much sleep, but he was able to compete.

The last time, was a boating/fishing get-together from a Colorado website I was part of in 2005. It was a Saturday/Sunday event. Each fisherman had their own campsite. We lived fairly close to the lake/reservoir it was being held at, but wanted to use my wife's camping equipment one more time. She had the equipment from when she was married before. Had our powerboat with us and put it in a rented/overnight slip. Didn't use the fire pit, but did have our small camping grill with us. We both had a fairly hard time sleeping in sleeping bags inside the tent. The Sunday BBQ-Get-Together was nice. After this camping experience, got rid of all the equipment and decided never to camp again. Our next "camping" experience would be at the Hilton or Marriott!

We also "camped" at Burning Man every time we went, but it's a bit more of an extreme camping experience. Here's the rest of the family sitting on the downwind side of the tent during a particularly intense dust storm. You can see the tent behind us being deformed by the wind during the dust storm.
It looks like you camped right on the beach with everyone else. Is that the type of camping you liked?

We enjoy camping at the beach or in a forest most. But the place in the pictures in my first post is our favorite campsite because in normal years we can ride our bicycles into town with the dogs, get an outdoor seat along the water and watch the boats and sea otters.

Burning Man takes place in an ancient dried lakebed in the desert. They make up "streets" and one camps along or in-between the streets. Lots of the space at Burning Man is reserved for theme camps which are camps where groups of people stay and have some sort of activity or activities for the rest of the community. We stayed in Math Camp which had math and science lectures and also a Friday morning bloody mary bar. Interestingly enough the lectures often had overflow crowds. There are a lot of nerds who go to Burning Man.

Well lets see.... We might like camping a little bit....
We have been living in a 5th wheel camper for 3 years now..... Well thats not really camping

Many week long tent camping trips with the kids growing up.
Have worn out several tents and pop up campers.

Its funny... We NEVER stayed in a campground until 10 years ago...
2013 we got our 1st non pop up camper.. nice to have heat/AC water and a bathroom.
Cant wait to retire and go camping more often.

I grew up camping because that's the kind of vacation my family could afford (unless we were visiting the grandparents). Old, heavy WWII canvas Army tent that leaked if you touched the canvas (DON'T TOUCH THE CANVAS!!!!!) Equally old army folding cots and scratchy old army blankets. It was paradise for us kids and hell for my mother.

My late husband and I tent camped a lot and then we got a pop-up trailer that was definitely a step up in the world.

The Spousal Equivalent and I spent 10 summers, 4-5 months at a time, traveling around the country "glamping" in our fifth-wheel. We sold it this summer and will be "roughing it" in Motel 6's if we hit the road again. What I'd really like to do is buy a place in my beloved Blue Ridge for the summers, but haven't found the right property yet.

Started with a tent, then a hearse, then slide in truck camper's, (4 different ones), then a bumper pull, then a 5th wheel, then converted van's, (2 times), then class-c motor home's, (3 times), then a class-A motor home, (Southwind), then converted greyhound bus, (GMC 4905A) and now back to triple slide class-A motor homes. (2)
And I'm still not campered out. :) Got my eye on a Gulfstream bounty hunter toy hauler. (y) One thing, if I stick with Gulfstream, I've got a lot of parts. :D

I used to love camping out ! In the summertime, when I was growing up, we went camping almost every weekend. Mom would make fried chicken and potato salad, Grandpa Bailey and my dad would load up the old wooden boat, and we would drive to some remote high country lake for the weekend. We had air mattresses for the sleeping bags, and my mom slept in her hamock, and Grandpa Bailey slept in his car.
For breakfast, we had fresh trout and pancakes cooked over the campfire and a hot pot of camp coffee. We had one of those old canvas army tents, too.
It was one of the things that I enjoyed most growing up.

As an adult, I took my kids camping sometimes, but not a lot, and we all enjoyed it when we did go. Eventually, I had a VW camper bus, and we traveled in that sometimes, and stayed in campgrounds, and that was fun, too.
I would love to go camping, but it is not a possibility anymore, and I am happy to have all of the wonderful memories.

Enjoyed it when I was younger...alas, old age is creeping in and between my bad back, hip and shoulder I’m afraid it would take a whole platoon of EMTs to get me off the ground:)
I could easily be convinced to ā€œglampā€ in one of those huge RVs with all the comforts of home.
My late hubby never camped without Mr. Coffee, so even with a tent we needed a spot with electric...
Used to be a cheap getaway also, not so much anymore

I did and enjoyed it but would not even consider it now.

These days I want a few comforts and a place to park my broom.
