Are you a better person than you were a year ago?

ABSOLUTELY NO! I feel that a whole year of my life (2020) has been taken from me. My dear wife passed away in 2020 so now I am alone in this apartment with very little freedom. My country feels & probably is resembling a concentration camp. Well, almost! The restaurants are closed, the senior centers are closed, our common room downstairs is closed so forget "Happy Hour." We are forced to stand 2 meters apart & wear those awful masks. I also wear glasses that steam up in stores & I wear hearing aids that get pulled out of my ears every time I take off that ugly mask. The government has shut down all festivals for the year. Recently We are suppose to sit home & rot watching everything virtual. Anyone here for "virtual sex?" I even read an article that says we should stay home & masturbate when we get too frisky.

Recently, government spies have found that people are skating too close on the local river. So what does the government do? Yup! They hire 3 more "rent-a-cop" people to hand out fines for those "bad" people who are not social distancing properly out on the cold ice. People are social animals but we are told to stay apart. Half of all deaths in this province have been in senior care homes but everyone has to suffer. The borders to the US have been shut since March; now over 10 months. We are not suppose to travel anywhere but the media is chalk full of stories about our political leaders going south to the Caribbean during Christmas holidays. It's enough to make any priest or rabbi swear or a sober man "hit the sauce." Bet this write up gets deleted because I am not following those "guidelines." Goodbye freedom of speech!

no. i'm frustrated with all the fighting and whining and tantrum throwing this virus has caused. i'm frustrated with work because of all the crap we gotta go through there because of other people's poor choices. i'm irritable because i'm sick of people treating each other like crap just because they seem to think they can and that it's ok. i have finally gotten to the point where i hate just about everyone right now.

I will never stop learning or stop trying new things. Getting ready to start two new classes. Just finished two classes. I have always been "fearful" of a pressure canner. I bought a canner and I canned everything in site.... meat... vegetables.... bacon....soups... beans....everything. Learned to make ghee and to can it. Got an instapot for Christmas as well as an Alexa. Got to keep up with the times. Bought my first virtual currency. Doubled my silver investment. Drew unemployment for the first time in 38 years! Did I say I doubled by silver investment? 529 accounts for my grandkids.... All these things I have done in the last 12 months. Most of these things I have never done before. I am the same person... almost
That’s VERY impressive. Unstoppable! 🥰

I know that I'm MORE of a person than I was last year. I received three-count'em-three big "baskets 'o goodies" for Christmas and they were packed with chocolate. I am embarrassed to admit that absolutely not one piece remains. Did I throw them away? Of course not! I ATE 'EM!!! Every last one...…

My talking scale keeps saying "one at a time, please!"

I feel the same as you do. Like a political prisoner. I'm so sorry about your wife. My condolences to you. People were not created to live like this. Bereft of company and comfort at such a time.

Well, I'm surprised & pleased that my "rantings" did not get deleted. Sometimes the truth hurts & people with rose coloured glasses don't want to read it. Talk about reading, I read yesterday where someone is talking about the economy not getting better until 2022 at the best estimate. They also talk about the economy not getting back on track until 2025 at the worst estimate. This is not good news if you are a senior citizen. You might not live long enough to see this madness end. They also said that everyone here in Canada would receive the vaccine by September, 2021. Now, they are saying that it might not be possible to vaccinate everyone until 2022. No one seems to really know & reading the news is so frustrating. Another article I read was by some university professor who commented that Canadians should not feel so smug when they see the riots in Washington; thinking that this could never happen in "good ole'" Canada. The professor warned that it could happen here too. There is only so much that people can take.

Better?No.
But this time last year I was a lot happier.Ten months of just existing with many more to come will put you into a depressed state.
Think of the great days at the old "Cardiff Arms Park", when 12st stand off halves were able to evade lumbering towards, and not have to tackle or be tackled, risking concussion, too often, relying on their genius like Barry John, or Phil Bennett.
Living a bit in the past is okay, when almost unimaginable treats lay ahead, like hearing a full crowd singing as one for the first time, and carrying on in the bars afterward. :)

A friend of mine who works at CVS pharmacy says the end of 2022. I hope she's wrong.:oops: All we can do is try to live each day to its fullest. We're all suffering to some degree. You're not alone.

That's an interesting way of looking at it. The way I see it was, a large group of people didn't like the outcome of a fair election, so they were trying to overturn it and put a dictator in power.

The good thing about the way our government is set up is, you can take over a building, but that doesn't equate to taking over the government. Had the insurrectionists stayed in the Capitol, Congress could have gone elsewhere to do their business and it would have been legal. The insurrectionists would not have had any real power, other than control of a building.

It's like the people who were afraid that Trump would refuse to leave the White House. Biden would still be sworn in and become president on Jan. 20 and Trump would simply be trespassing.

Title. Are you a better person than you were a year ago?

Myself - no. I haven't accomplished much of anything of value this year. If you wiped 2020 out of my life, it would be better. I didn't achieve any goals this year for the first time, probably ever, and it's put me in a bitter mood.

How about you?
Thinking about it now, I feel I have accomplished and finished 2020 satisfactorily as I helped nurse an accident case. Gave me a good feeling that I could, at my age, still help.

There certainly was high expectations, in respect to when all Canadians will be vaccinated
First i heard, would be end of June.
Then, like you Packerjohn, September 2021.
Now ?????????????????.
Heard this on the tv news today........inmates in prisons will be higher on the list.......even before the prison guards.......and before the general public.
Very disheartening.

Am i a better person?
I've acquired much more patience.
I've acquired more respect to the more important things in life.
I've learned bad decisions comes with a very high price.
Have been doing a lot of soul searching.
I think.......
Thanks to Covid.......i may be a better person.......or just maybe a fool.
