Well, this is a new one on me. I bought a few pairs of socks today & when I'm opening the package, I notice an "R" & an "L" on each pair. I thought, "No....it couldn't be; I've never seen or heard of such a thing. How 'bout you?

Why do they put L and R on socks? (Google)
Designed to hug the contours of your feet the same way shoes do, they prevent annoying bunches from developing while you exercise.

Correct. Turn one of your shoes upside down and see the wear on the heel. For most it's on the offside, socks that are left & right handed reflect that. You will find the stitching or reinforcing, is positioned to prevent excess wear, at the point of contact when walking.

Of course all that could just be a load of sales baloney, I buy made to measure socks, the spiel about left and right hand goes on about walking, gait and posture. My socks are lovely, but do I need a lecture in walking?

Nope not heard of it myself... and I have over 40 pairs of socks

Never heard of such a thing. Socks form to your feet, not the other way around. The reason I know this? If I put my shoes on the wrong feet, I'll know it immediately. If I put my sock on one foot then the other; can't tell the difference. I don't even bother to match colours with my socks let alone left & right lol!
My only must have in a sock is that it be wool! Wool maintains its insulating properties even if they become damp because your feet are sweating. A wool sock can make the difference between frost bitten toes or not when working outside in temps. as cold as minus 40's.

Shot myself in the foot there, Holly. That's what happens when you know it all and start boasting.
Most of my clothes are of a vintage style. I can't simply buy retail or online, that which was worn, yesteryear, so I go in for bespoke. That also includes accoutrements. There you go, I still have much to learn about forums.

My husband is a runner and he buys Jordans left and right socks. I think it stops them bunching up...must ask him.

Made to measure socks as far as I know are compression socks which you do have to be measured for, is that what you mean horseless?

My crazy neighbor once told me she had to stop putting her socks together after she washed them because someone kept breaking into her house and stealing them. She said it didn't stop them but at least she was making it hard for them. She was serious.

Okay, this is 30 years old, but when I was hiring IT folks I was told to look at their socks during the interview:

If they matched, they would be okay at routine tasks but not developmental tasks
If they were unmatched, would not be concise enough for even routine tasks
No socks meant they would not want to meet deadlines or standards.
One sock? Hire them immediately

Sorry

I never heard of such a thing either.

I think I'll stick with the old-fashioned, regular. :giggle:

All the more reason to not wear them! :ROFLMAO:
teens, especially girls, often have on mismatched sox. lazy? of course! "trendy"? definitely! hoping to get the attention of some boy? absolutely! on a 1-166 year old girl mismatched sox look cute. on someone my/our age? eyebrows are raised!

Our Puja is done on a bamboo floor without shoes. I bought some really cool socks that are made for each toe just like gloves and the design looks best if they are on the right foot.

On 1 to 116 girls they look cute but on someone our age eyebrows are raised? 🤣😂
Not sure how old you are but.....

Since the package said "Wash before wearing," when they came out of dryer, matching the Right & Left was an adventure. :)
