What’s are some annoying noises that drive you batty?

Car alarms going off outside my apartment building
Children crying or yelling (especially in the stores)
Yapping dogs (my bf's 3 dogs get barking when I am on the phone with and I will quickly end the call, can't stand it)
My sound on my computer is always off until I want to listen or watch something.
Noises phones make, ringtones or notifications. I keep my notifications on silent and my ringtone is now a quieter one. But my bf's sounds like some sort of an emergency vehicle and is very loud....hate it!
Most of all, I HATE the fire alarm going off here. My smoke alarm is bad enough but the fire alarm in the hallway is super loud and rings and rings until the firemen arrive to turn it off. Thank God it has always been a false alarm since I have been here.

Since I have Meniere's Disease, which affects my ears. Any loud music in churches or at a concert.
I am going into a restaurant & a 2 or 3-year-old kid hollering at the top of their lungs. I ask to change tables or booths way away from them.

When we raised our Son, he only hollered one time in a restaurant. My Wife took him out to the car & when he came back in, he was quiet. Never hollered again in a restaurant. We need more of that nowadays. It was hard for him to sit.

Used to be tiny little noises, like the whistle coming from an ol' man's nose.
Don't hear it anymore.
Come to think about it.....I've become that ol' man.

Anyway

What turns me into a raving maniac is the cranked up stereo at a stop light.
I want to stride over to that goofball's car, grab his neck, and shove his ear into the speakers.
It's a dream I have.
May happen.

lots and lots of 'noises' that didn't bother me and they do now, most have been mentioned upthread.

I've been told the it's attributable to age-onset sensory input disorder.

same reaction to too bright lights... makes me want to scream like an autistic toddler 🙁

One thing that I always have to take into account when objecting to noise around me........others who are hard of hearing. Two of my neighbors across the hall get together for coffee and they are both hard of hearing so I can hear every word they say. As for bf, he is completely deaf in one ear so everything has to be turned up for him. When he is here watching television I turn it up as loud as it will go. I have to put up with it and I do.

A mosquito buzzing indoors at night.

Neighbors that start home improvements (banging hammers & buzzing saws) at 7 am.

Motorcycles that seem needlessly loud.

Fingernails on a blackboard.

Hearing squealing brakes on a car like there's going to be an imminent collision.

Loud heavy metal or rock music.

A fire siren (I live a block from a firehouse) or other sirens (ambulance, police car - needful but annoying).

Neighbors loud outdoor parties in the summer.

Indoor smoke alarms.

People talking loudly on their cell phones in a public place.

Surprised no one has mentioned something very common that is really intolerable for many haha. Generally I'm pretty tolerant of noise at my residence. Live near major urban boulevards and shopping districts that are easy walk to's but traffic sounds are loud. If I want quiet, foam cylindrical ear plugs will attenuate sound levels enough. I'm a light sleeper so need to use them at times at night.

So what is that awful sound?

SNORING

Even wearing earplugs cannot sleep with someone snoring nearby. And note Mr Dave never snores.

Remember the sound of someone scraping their fingernail on one of those old blackboards?
Crying babies, loud mufflers, lawn care folks who "attack at dawn", the sound of a Dentist's drill, whiny voices, slamming doors, dogs barking at imaginary things, a dripping faucet. a smoke alarm that decides it needs new batteries at 3AM.

I could go on.

It's a short drive, but....

Those 'emergency alerts', whether on the TV or radio. They interrupt the programs and proceed with annoying screeching, beeping or other shrill sounds.
