'Don't Weigh Me' cards aim to reduce stress at the doctor's office

A body positivity website has created free "Don't Weigh Me" cards for patients who find stepping on the scale at the doctor's office stressful.
The cards, created by California-based More-Love.org, are available for free to individuals, excluding the cost of postage. There is also the option for businesses to purchase the cards, at $35 per 100 cards.

I weigh more at the doctor's office too, I figured it was because I had on clothes and shoes.

They should make the cards for cats and dogs, I always wind up feeling ashamed at my pets not achieving the perfect weight. The vets would complain my cat was too fat, and they'd complain my dog was too thin, both ways I felt like a failure as a pet-parent.

Interesting concept. I have noticed that my weight in the doctor's office always seems to be several pounds more than what I weigh myself at home. Around 7 pounds to be exact. Anyone else noticed that? I always wondered about that.
Do you weigh yourself at home with clothes and shoes on? Are your appointments morning or afternoon? Both things can make a difference. Next time you're going weigh yourself 'au naturale' at home first, get dressed for appt and then weigh yourself again. That might narrow the discrepancy if you usually weigh yourself naked at home. 7lds seems like a lot...but of course climate (in winter i'm wearing thermal underclothes sweaters and often lined boots that could easily account for that.

Knowing what you weigh seems to me to be a health issue that a large percent of society is ignoring. Clothing & an afternoon appointment will show an increase.

I am not sure that's a great idea. I think doctors often track your weight to see if there are trends and then investigate. My Dr always seems to notice losses and gains, and he often asks about them. Seems to me this is taking away one tool the Dr has to evaluate your health.

Yep, same here as others have said its mostly clothing. I weight the least first thing in the morning, I always gain a couple of pounds as the day goes on, then I lose it overnight.

Weighing first thing in the morning with little or no clothing will give you the lowest weight, does for me anyway. 7 pounds one way or the other matters little, its trends that matter. So weighing at the same time of day and clothed in the same way will give you what you need to follow trends.

How about the blood pressure test, I'm sure that there's some people that freak out over that one.

How about just cancelling the medical visit altogether, you how doctors are always trying to ruin your happiness by telling you things you don't want to hear, like stop smoking-stop drinking-start exercising! 🤓

Or get more vaccines. :ROFLMAO:

A good doctor will usually "recommend" changes that can improve a person's health. Excessive Weight is the root cause of nearly 1/3rd of our nations health problems....across ALL age groups...per data at the CDC.
But people already know what changes they need to make without a doctor telling them. I've never heard anyone talk about the health benefits of donuts. The problem is not a lack of information; it's a lack of self discipline.

I always thought they weigh you in case you need medication. Then they will know how much to give you to be effective without killing you.
I think any doctor can guesstimate a patient's weight without weighing them. Even I can do that & be accurate within 10 lbs.

Ever look at your Medicare statement? My doctors charge separately for talking about weight. No doctor talks to me about weight, but they always state they did to get paid for it. Crooks.
LOL - The procedures are pre-set up for profit.
My doctor won't refill my Rx for insulin unless I see her every 3 months. When I told her that was ridiculous, her office said, "Well....OK, maybe every 6 months." I said, "Still ridiculous." They said, "Well, how about once a year?"
At one visit, they added lab tests I neither needed or wanted.
Then, the doctor asked me what I have for breakfast. I said, "Usually some fruit, sometimes I make a "cereal" with sliced almonds & soy milk."
I mentioned that I use the unsweetened soy milk because it only has 2 gms sugar vs the sweetened version that has 8-15 gms sugar. She didn't know that, since she's not diabetic & it didn't concern her.
My bill had an extra charge for "Nutritional Counseling."
LOL -I should have charged her, since I'm the one who gave her nutritional counseling.
