How do you feel about all those cooking shows on TV & YouTube?

I'm not a "foodie". For me, an old family recipe is "Microwave on HIGH 4 minutes". I just can't get into those cooking contest TV show. Some almost Celebrity deciding my broccoli is overcooked. Yet, there are others where cooking is a religion. Some watch, and never try to make the dishes. And people must like cooking shows, because PBS has a huge portion of their day devoted to them. How do you feel about cooking shows? Do you make the dishes? Would you make a good TV "chef"?

I only watch that one show with Gordon Ramsey, Master Chef. I especially like the Master Chef Junior. Those kids are amazing. But no, I never make the dishes they do. They are too complicated most of the time, use ingredients I don't like or have access to. I'm kind of a "meat and potatoes" type cook.

Yes, I like the cooking shows. I don't watch everyday, but usually a few per week.

Some people are sports addicts, murder-mystery fans, etc. Some enjoy cooking. Some just like watching cooking.

You don't have to play football to like watching it on TV.

I have made some of the dishes; mostly inspired by them and use my own favorite things. I intend to make more.

I love cooking but not keen on cooking shows. I recently bought some Ray Wings, found some YouTube videos showing how to prepare and cook them which was very useful as I have never bought them before (y)

@Trish, do you mean Stingray wings?

Nope, if something is gauranteed to make me reach for the remote control to turn over channels it's a competitive cooking show.. and tbh most Cooking shows in general.. I'll watch the occasional one near Christmas to get some extra ideas.. but definitely no competitive ones...*yawn*

I used to watch Hell's Kitchen on TV. Not as much any more. A You Tube cook I liked was Shotgun Red. He had some good recipes. He passed away a few years ago, though. This is a recipe of his I still make often

There may also be other types of rays, I never ate one. It looks like Skate.
I've never even seen them on sale before so thought I would try them. You remove the bone at the top and trim off the edge (which is mostly bone). I marinated them in white wine, garlic and ginger overnight and then pan fried them with Baharat spice and lemon juice. They were very nice (y)

Sounds delicious!!!

I haven't been able to find baharat locally. I did order it online a few times, but somehow I forgot about it. I understand the blend can be different in different areas.

Thanks for your tips on making ray wings.!

I do watch some...not as much as I used to. I don't care for the competitive ones either.

The newest one I 've found and enjoyed watching is 'The Urban Vegetarian' on the Gustotv channel.
She makes really interesting meals w/just vegs. She's very pleasant to watch.

And, she's really in to her spiralizer...lol

I love them! I use YouTube videos in place of a cookbook. That is how I learned how to use my Instant Pot. I follow many keto channels and part of their content is their recipes. I honestly use them all the time. I like to cook and it has been fun learning to cook this way. I usually print out their recipes so I can put them on my refrigerator while I am preparing the dish.

Any dish I want to make I just look for it on YouTube. Watching it being prepared is very helpful. My boyfriend, has done the same. He bought an Instant Pot also and uses his almost daily. What is there not to like about them? Everybody has to eat.

You can roast them too, I might try that next time. The baharat spice I have came from Waitrose supermarket, it is really nice with stir fries too. (y)

I like them to watch from time to time. Even though I’m not big on cooking I find it fascinating to watch how good some of these Chefs are. I’ve also picked up little helpful hints. When I was heavy I avoided as they made me too hungry!
