Eight people Shot on the subway Brooklyn New York

It's all heartbreaking. There is so much mental illness in the world now being neglected until it erupts in something like this. And the govt. wants us to take public transportation to cut down on emissions. Not a chance. What a terrible mess this has become. :(
Most mentally ill people don't commit violent crimes FYI, only like 3%.

This wasn't any "random" act. Given the contents of this killers backpack, he was planning this for some time. Until he is caught...IF he is caught... his motivation may remain unknown.
The report that surveillance cameras weren't working is also disturbing. In today's crazy world, that shouldn't happen.

I got up this morning to walk the dog and then tuned into the news, only to be greeted by the early reports of this violence. Felt depressed for most of the rest of the day. Most of the early reports were wrong in the details reported - not surprising. As the day progressed, the NYPD and related agencies gradually came out with more accurate information. The good news is that this guy was a bad shot. Fired 33 times and didn't kill anyone. Just another stupid, angry person out to ruin as many lives as possible. Mental illness? No, not unless you consider anger a mental illness. He will be caught and prosecuted but I'm afraid that the violence will continue as long as we have those who exploit the divisions in our society.
I'm with you, but I turn on Good Morning America, listen to the headlines and then fast forward through them unless there is something that affects my life. The rest is too depressing. I usually delete the whole show.

The news loves to report negative, sensational stories and I have no need for that in my life right now. I usually hear more substantive facts from Trevor Noah or Steven Colbert in a humorous manner. I can at least laugh while I cringe.

The survivors of Tuesday morning's subway attack in Brooklyn have described how they sat next to the gunman as he pulled an ax and gun from his duffel bag before he threw a smoke grenade and fired 33 shots, leaving 10 people injured with bullet wounds.

A witness said the suspect said 'Oops, my bad', as he opened one of his gas tanks and filled the subway car with smoke when it was between stations, before he pulled out his weapons and opened fire.

A multi-state manhunt is now underway for Frank James, 62, who is a 'person of interest' in the attack, with police offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

Police said the keys found at the crime scene belong to an abandoned U-Haul truck in Brooklyn that was rented by James and the suspect also made 'concerning' threats against New York City Mayor Eric James and railed against the city's homelessness crisis in social media posts.

Passenger Fitim Gjeloshi said he remembers the harrowing moment the gunman, who is still at large, decided to fill the subway carriage with smoke before opening fire.

'I looked him, and I thought to myself he was talking to himself for a while, so I looked at him, and I was like, 'This guy must be on drugs',' he told the New York Post.

'When [the train] was about to hit 36th street, we stopped for 5 minutes. He takes out a gas mask from one of his little luggage. He opened one of his gas tanks, and he said, 'Oops, my bad'. He pulls out an ax, he drops it, he takes a gun out, he starts shooting.'

'One guy gets shot right next to me. He says, "Help! Help!",' Gjeloshi said. 'I tell some person to help him out, cover the blood for him. I jump over, I bang the door and I kicked it with my leg.'

Terrified passengers tried to get out of the carriage where the gunman was shooting passengers, but the door was locked. When the train pulled into 36th Street station in Sunset Park, injured passengers were seen laying on the floor that was streaked with blood as the gunman fled.

they're looking for this guy Frank James

The 'person of interest' in the Brooklyn subway shooting posted hundreds of videos on his YouTube channel condemning crime in New York City, detailing his own PTSD and battles with social workers, and raging against white people, Puerto Ricans, Jewish people, climate change and the police.

Frank James, 62, was described by police as the person who rented a U-Haul in Philadelphia on Monday, and drove to Brooklyn.

The cargo van was found abandoned five miles from the scene, and the key to the van was left at the site of the shooting, at the 36th Street subway station in Sunset Park.

A $50,000 reward has been offered by police and transit authorities for information leading to his arrest.

On Tuesday night they published a photo of James taken from his YouTube account, where he posted videos under the name 'Prophet of Truth88.'

His expletive-filled videos feature him ranting about the state of the world as he sees it; airing his grievances; threatening to 'kill everything in sight' and sharing conspiracy theories - such as claiming that the Twin Towers could never have been brought down on 9/11 by planes.

He references psychiatric facilities he has attended in the Bronx and in New Jersey, saying the staff failed to help him and 'made me more dangerous'.

'Mr. Mayor, I'm a victim of your mental health program,' James said in one lengthy video.

'I'm 63 now full of hate, full of anger, and full of bitterness.'
He also criticized the mayor for not doing more to combat homelessness.

'Eric Adams, Eric Adams: What are you doing brother? What's happening with this homeless situation,' he said while referring to the subway.

'Every car I went to was loaded with homeless people. It was so bad I couldn't even stand. I had to keep moving from car to car.'

He continued: 'He can't stop no crime in no subways. He may slow it down but he ain't stopping it.'

'That means you'd have to have police in every station and that's just not possible,' he added.

The NYPD said they were increasing security for Adams after police discovered the videos.

Ridership on the subways in NYC were already down about 50% since COVID. I doubt if this will help that statistic. It was also on the news that many subway riders hug the wall while waiting for their train to prevent from being thrown onto the tracks. Really?

I was born & raised in the NYC suburbs and worked in Manhattan after school.
It has become a sewer during the last mayoral administration, the crime and homelessness is completely out of control,
Eric Adams the current mayor has been as ineffectual as his predecessor despite his campaign promises.
The Defund the police program as well as castigating them for trying to do their jobs has contributed to this.
I often wonder if it will ever return to it's former greatness.

Senseless crimes and killings seem to be increasing in nearly All of the major population centers. Between the justice systems allowing more and more criminals to be released, and the reductions and criticism of the police, and the frustrations Covid has created in our societies, just making a quick run to the stores is becoming increasingly risky in many cities.

Sad reality that most surveillance cameras are just window dressing to look like there is security....
Of course this was planned out and no one ever gets the satisfaction of the true motive only speculations and narratives.....

The only good thing is more people were not injured or killed .....
it was a situation where there were many people who could have been targets.

Well I am sure this will sound political and it is. When will American politicians stop taking money from the NRA lobbyists? When will Americans demand they stop taking money from the NRA?
Demands by the American people don't seem to have much effect. There are lots of situations which the majority of Americans would like to be changed, but we are ignored.

I was not surprised, but very disheartened, by the subway shootings. I can recall a time when I was shocked and horrified by mass shootings, murders, and especially murders of pregnant women by their husbands.

Honestly we need to demand they quit taking money from ALL lobbyists ......... nothing gets done because of it...

want candy or soda energy drinks and junk off food stamps eligibility........ i wrote to agriculture department ( in charge of food stamp programs) they have hundreds of asks from states to be able to make items not eligible but they are not even answered..
nope because one of the most powerful lobbies is the beverage manufactures one... or sugar lobby ......
numerous other examples of no change based on $$$$$

Americans need to DEMAND term limits ......then the incentive of buying this senator or that representative is gone

I agree. It becomes all about money and not about the people. Poorer people and middle class are getting squeezed by everything. Goods and food, rent, property. And it's allowed. Jerks in Washington are rich and care nothing about the people. And how damn hard can that job be if some of these people are into their 80's???!!! When most close to retirement age want to ASAP.

i agree many many department in government have mandatory retirement ages why not them too...... no need for people to be changing laws that most likely they will not live to see the ramifications

Subway gunman Frank James has been arrested walking around the East Village in lower Manhattan, a day after shooting ten people on a packed Brooklyn train.

James was taken into custody on Wednesday on 1st Avenue between 7th and 8th Streets after a by-stander recognized him and called police.

More details are expected at a 2pm press conference. His arrest on Wednesday brings an end to an embarrassing, day-long manhunt by the FBI and NYPD.

Now that he is in custody, attention will turn to why it took the police so long to find him in a city that is covered in surveillance cameras.

The cameras inside the 36th Street station were not working yesterday when he opened fire on the northbound N train at 8.24am.

It meant he managed to escape as wounded passengers spilled out onto the platform covered in blood.

James, 62, had posted ranting videos on YouTube about violence, race, Eric Adams and crime in New York

Remember the TV series "The Naked City" set in New York? The line was "There are 8 million stories in the naked city, this has been one of them."
I remember the series very well. It was black and white, great stories, great acting and NO SWEARING! Bet they can't do a series like this anymore with out a lot of F.... this and F..... that. If that isn't enough then "I don't want any more of this S..... or that S....... To my way of thinking, if you don't have great actors, great stories and a great movie, just have all your actors stand there and swear all the time. I suppose this is to attract an audience?

Ya, I know things have changed but sometimes not for the better. Bette Davis, Gary Cooper, Edward G. Robinson & Robert Mitchum made a career in Hollywood without constant swearing. I bet if Shirley Temple made a movie today, there would be a lot of F and S words. I suppose she would just be showing her "feelings." It's a brave new world and what goes around comes around. More killings coming soon to your media. Stay tuned. You wouldn't be disappointed!
