How do you cope with bad news?

I wake up to the news on more shootings, January 6th hearings, the Dow dropping 800 points and extreme weather events throughout the country. I have almost become immune to these stories, which I never want to be, but I just can't let them rule my life. I have chosen to filter out what I watch. What do you all do to keep sane and in good spirits?

I read the headlines online. That's it. If I get too involved, not only is it depressing, it is definitely not in the "need to know" category. I pay attention to politics near the election because I always vote. I can almost predict what is going to happen in political matters -- and it is rarely good for the country and its people, IMO.

I no longer participate in political forums. There is no point in getting upset, sad, and/or angry about what goes on.

I don't watch the news on TV. I'm not even sure I can. For local events, I go to the local radio station's site. Their news is always just the facts. It is amazing!

I read a lot of books. I cook. I try not to procrastinate.

Mostly, I do murders. I like to watch the fear in their eyes as they slowly die.

Well, no real murders..but I do like to write little comedy blurbs and stuff. That helps. Creative writing helps.

I do a lot of stuff. Meditation work. Breathing exercises. But I have PTSD. I have to do that stuff for my PTSD anyway.

I guess the therapy for PTSD applies generally, somewhat, for people in stress in daily life.

Not entirely, but some.

I also have done therapy, counseling.

And, of course, Lindt dark chocolate truffles.

And Ben and Jerry's

And canoli

And tiramisu

Pumpkin pie is pretty good.

Your are to funny!! It is amazing to see some one who has suffered so much to display such a sense of humor and positive attitude.

I turn off the television or watch something else.

Tune out from the news, even though we still have a newspaper delivered, just simply ignore it.
My day is filled with work, that's full time paid employment.
When my wife and I are not going to some dance or other she will be in her cabin where she indulges in her passion for making our clothes, whilst I will switch on the Jukebox and listen to music like Dean Martin's "Sway." Chances are I will be, doing what I call, 'scribing.' That is a hand written record, most often a wedding album, but I have done poems, tributes and even obituaries.

Double score, he is sharp dresser and he can dance!!

In these times, many people suffer from “information overload,” the remedy for which is to disconnect from too much information from time to time. It can be a fine line to walk, as I want to be well-informed but not driven crazy.

Years ago, I coped by telling myself that I was never going to be able to change the world much less save it. I have since amended that to reminding myself that I’m not responsible for how other people think and feel…. 🤔

I do not watch the news and do not go to any news sites. I have blocked all news pages on fakebook except for a local radio station. I am busy all day just taking care of my apartment and keeping my life going. I found I do not have to keep up on the news because there is a guy across the hall who will broadcast all the news to everyone he comes in contact with....real or fake news.

see, if there was someone broadcasting Fake news around me.. then I would HAVE to be looking at the news to get clarity.

I'm a bit of a news-hound... it's been my life, I'm a researcher... I try to wean myself off looking too much, so I just stick to online news sites ( newspapers ) .. and don't watch news at all on TV...
