Regular gas here is now $4.89 a gallon

$5.19 a gallon — Washington state (USA)
i recall living in rural WA when it hit $3.75 and people nearly freaked.
we werent on a mainline...we were off the major highways which Always drives prices up since
truckers have to drop off in out of the way secondary lines.

this is pure greed. taking advantage of the public while they still live and have some money left.

it was 4.78 here today...not far from the Major Terminals...NO reason for these high prices here.
i expect 5 by the weekend when the touristas come thru in droves.

this is about total greed with putey bringing survival aspects to the front and center of all news.
what will he do with the...was it 55billion tons of grain he now sits on....how long can russia store
that much grain before it rots.

we might as well write the africans off. no water no food no grains. theres little left to hunt and animals
have no food to hunt. they have no water no firewood they got nuthin.

putey dont care: let them die.

Prices I saw for regular gas today in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles averaged about $6.50 per gallon.
I buy at Arcos in the SFV. Per gallon: $5.89/cash, $5.99 credit. High, but better than $6.50.

We've definitely cut back on our driving and use our hybrid (36 mpg) unless hauling something that requires the pickup truck (probably 18 mpg). We need the truck for our business.

We've cut way back on our RV camping and are choosing nearby destinations rather than places many hundreds of miles away.

We're at $4.69/Gal. here, in Missouri...less than most of the nation, due to having fairly low gas taxes. However, $5/gal is probably due any day, and I won't be surprised if prices don't continue to rise all Summer. These high prices don't seem to be slowing down the traffic.

Well, it happened in the blink of an eye. The price of one gallon of regular gasoline at the nearest station to my home (Sunoco) went from $4.89 to $4.99 to $5.09 in probably 10-14 days, maybe less. For the first time in my life (and surely not the last), I paid $5.09 (really $5.10) today for a gallon of gasoline. It was a sad day.

Then I went to the grocery store (spent $80) and to the farmer's market (spent $30) and that doesn't include the $65 I spent earlier this week. That's $175 in less than five days, not including the gasoline.

Blame, Blame, Blame! Putin is an easy scapegoat but it's the West that cut off Russian oil. Less supply and constant demand means high prices. We have no problem with Saudi oil but they are very, very low on human rights.

Either I am lucky or boring. I go with the latter. I only fill up once every three months or so. Most places I go are a mile or two away. I also don't go out but once or twice a week. This is one area of inflation that is easy for me to avoid.
I feel really bad for the people that have no choice, they must get to work, or don't have access to everything close to home. I can't imagine.

You may not be paying directly via your auto's personal fuel tank, but you're paying plenty indirectly.

Higher fuel costs across the globe bump up prices of everything that moves from point A to point B via truck, ship, rail and/or airplane. Food prices are up because fuel for tractors and other farm equipment is more expensive. Ditto fertilizer and food for livestock.

Anything with plastic or other petrochemicals in the product or packaging also rises as oil rises.

Then there's the increase in salaries for everyone as their costs of living rise.

Trust me, I know I pay for other products that are rising due to the cost of gas. I am very thrifty. I have plenty of space and two fridge/freezer combos. I stock up on staple pantry and canned goods when they are loss leaders, even more so during the holiday season for use in the coming year. I buy and freeze meat in much the same way. I have full freezers right now. I am watch for the next good deal on pork chops or lions. I am also low on bacon but there is a loss leader sale, I will buy the two packs allowed for the freezer.

The important thing is to rotate your stock, use the oldest items first and don't buy more than you can use in a few months in the meat area. Know your sales and the cycles of when things go on sale. Taking advantage of reward programs, coupons and check those clearance areas. I eat very well by doing this. I never feel deprived and it is very good for my finances.

I do not have to do these things but when you are retired it pays to be smart with your money. I want to make sure my funds, hopefully, will last until I pass.

Most stations here in Santa Clara County with its 2 million plus population are $6.19 and higher. Average Chevron is $6.79.

Using the above link, I see a few stations at $5.99 I will seek out on my next fill up. Out east in the Central Valley prices are about 20 cents less. I am definitely putting some blame on our militarist, politicians, and media unnecessarily provoking Russians 4 months ago into the Ukraine neo-con proxy war that has severely aggravated inflation and gasoline prices.

Reminds me that I have to go fill up the car... and while I'm out, buy more toilet paper. :ROFLMAO::LOL: We've been sneaking (buying) a 32 roll from Sam's every single day. We have a tunnel to go thru now ... to get to the bed.

I guess Matthew McConaughey called up this Exxon to lower their prices! LOL Can you tell I'm sleepy? I'm delirious already. And I'm joking about Matthew. Bless his heart.

Seriously though, Costco has called great attention to their massive supplies of TP & PT since the shortages two years ago. Pallets and pallets of them in a couple of places in the store, presumably meant to reassure customers that we don't need to hoard.

Even so, most people I know keep a bit more TP & PT on hand than pre-pandemic. Once burnt, twice shy.
