Let's talk Christmas :-)

Trish

VIP OAP
The days of making lists, rushing around buying presents, ordering the turkey and spending Christmas Eve in the shops trying to buy all the last minute things and then going home to wrap everything up, filling up bowls with sweets, nuts and fruit, making sure you have pickled red cabbage in the cupboard even though you know it probably won't be eaten but, red cabbage is a Christmassy thing, are just memories now as are the office parties, lunches, Secret Santa and all that festive stuff. These days I am much more organised, my Christmas card list is shorter and the present list shorter still and we are more likely to be sipping a glass of mulled wine on Christmas Eve than worrying about having missed something off the Christmas list. Sometimes, I do miss the Christmas rush just as I look back at the New Year's Eve parties and the times we use to go to Trafalgar Square and see in the New Year with hordes of strangers before tackling the journey home. Not that I would want to do all that now but, good memories all the same.

So, what about you? Anyone want to talk about Christmas? 🎄🤶🎅
:)

Yes I miss all of that to... and NO..I don't want to talk about Christmas until December..

I love Christmas, I go all out decorating inside. Not so much outside, Canadian winters and taking down lights in January brrrr

Like to do a Christmas craft each year too.....my collection is almost taking up a whole closet. My fave is the two elves that perch in hubby's moose antlers, they look like they are sitting in a tree.

I think apart from anything else.. a lot of people are closing their ears to Christmas this year, due to the rocketing cost of living..
I think so too. We don't buy too much stuff at Christmas tbh, I mostly like the time of year and all the glitter. There is usually a carol service in the square near us which is free and really good.

Yay! I love Christmas too 🎄 :giggle:

What Christmas crafts do you do? I sew but mostly it's clothes, cushions, bags etc. I am thinking of making some patchwork with all the bits of fabric I have from other projects but, haven't got much time at the minute so, maybe a winter project.

Trish, so many ideas for Christmas crafts on Pinterest, I might replace my Christmas themed placemats this year and make chair cushions to match. Have some lovely pointsettia fabric I picked up last week at a store closing.

Good idea! Actually patchwork placemats could be good or one of those padded mats for putting hot pans on. Mum uses placemats all the time so, a good gift too. I have some squares of nice cotton fabrics which I bought to make masks with, they would be perfect. Thank you :)

Christmas is my most favorite holiday! 🎄🎅

I love to decorate the house. We don’t do anything outside but every room inside gets a touch of Christmas cheer, though it’s concentrated in the living room/kitchen.

Ron finds us a pretty tree then he sets it up, and strings the lights and garland and the generic ornaments. I do the personalized ones.

I shop for Ron, kids and grandkids. We usually do some kind of name-draw, and also a Dirty Santa. Christmas Eve Ron and I exchange gifts and have our own little celebration with charcuterie and mulled wine.

Our kids who have kids do their own Christmas morning with their family, then my kids and grands gather at either our house or my daughter’s house, where I make a huge Christmas breakfast. After everyone’s eaten we exchange gifts and hang out. Sometimes we all head to a Christmas Day movie if there’s nothing else going on.

Ron’s kids and grands usually spend Christmas morning with their mother so we don’t gather with them till later Christmas day or evening, or the next day. They come over to our house and we have another gift opening and a meal or snack depending on what time of day they’re here. There’s always hot chocolate and hot spiced tea.

Even as much as I love Christmas, I’m ready to put the decorations away for the year as soon as the last family member leaves the house after the last get together!! 😂

Got a FaceTime from son a few days ago. Seems my grandson NEEDED to talk to me. He told me he wants more of the train tracks I got him last year, only this time with REAL bridges, not the track hand made bridges. He then went on the biggest tangent "Grandma, you have to wrap the presents in PAPER. Paper, he kept insisting. Last year, when he was three I ran out of paper & used shiny aluminum foil and he never said anything at the time but it seems he remembered!

I love Christmas too and enjoy it with my little family, I don’t have a lot to do but love the music and bustle around town

I made a start yesterday with this lovely poinsettia, I’ll buy my special cards next week then start on the presents

Last year we had a small pine tree for this room.
After Christmas needles all over things.

Back in the 80s my mother was doing ceramic objects.
She was making the lighted Christmas trees,,offered to make me one.
I had her make me a small one Without lights.

NOW years later am kicking myself for not having her make me one with lights.
Off to eBay I go to search for one about 15 to 20 inches tall.

WOW,, prices really are all over the place & that is without shipping.

I found one close to I am looking for ,, by time its cost & shipping I would have Over $300 in it!
The hunt continues,,,, Notice some that are "New",, several of them??

So China has noticed the old ones selling high & have joined the crowd.

Guess I'm fussy ,,China ones don't match with my ideas of what I want.

So far the good? thing is my 'hunt' gets us out of house & into antique stores.

Actually, I loved all of that stuff. The shopping and the wrapping, the food preparation etc. I miss those days.
Christmas has always in adulthood been my favourite time of year.. I never had anything as a child... so as an adult I've always made a big deal of Christmas, especially when DD was little... However now I'm on my own, husband has gone.. the energy bills have gone sky high.. the food has risen steeply in price, not to mention Fuel.. so it's not going to be fun for me.. and millions of others this year ..and potentially for several years to come..

Mom always said "Christmas should only be Thanksgiving with a tree".
As usual we over do it...lol.

Those soapy Christmas shows are all over the Hallmark channels like white on rice!
well that wouldn't work here because we don't have thanksgiving.. Christmas is HUGE in England... but wasn't so much in Scotland when I was growing up.. Scotland enjoys Hogmany ( New Years Eve) much more than Christmas.. at work we only got Christmas day off, but sevral days over New Year.. but in England you get a whole week off in many places for Christmas .. and the kids are off school for 2 weeks..

We don't decorate outside the house, but do so inside.

The tree, of course, is our centerpiece, and there are ornaments from generations on it. We add new ones each year.

My son plays Christmas music continuously, beginning a few days before the day itself.
