Do you have a New Year's Day food tradition?

Does anyone have certain foods that they make every New Year's Day?

In my family as a kid, it was always pork & kraut in the form of cabbage rolls in kraut made by Grandma. When she passed, my mom did it.

As us kids got married & the families expanded, we didn't all gather at one place anymore. Two of us continued with cabbage rolls.

I made them for a while, but I started to vary the menu to other pork & kraut recipes. This year it will be an herb roasted pork shoulder, wine-braised kraut, mashed potatoes, rye bread & not sure on the other veggie. Dessert is still up in the air.

What will you be making?

Ham and lima bean soup. But ham must be the bone and some of left over meat from the Christmas dinner ham. I make it and we have first servings on New Year's Eve, and then on New Year's day.

The idea is that it would is by using the bone and leftover ham, we're carrying some of what was good in old year into the new one.
I love it because the liquid of it is thick like a stew and it's one of those things that seem to be tastier oon 2nd snd 3rd day than on its first.

I don't prepare anything special for New Year's Day. It's just the hubby and I.

I have no such traditions, but my mother always ate pickled herring on New Year’s Eve or Day. It stunk up the whole house!

OK, I brought a nice sized platter of brussels sprouts. Enjoy. I sprinkled some cilantro on top too.

Yes now that is what I am talking about. I am tired of eating what I made. Only so much ham or lasagna can one person take. Taking my self out alone (so I don't have to share). The trouble will be what to order.........mmmmmmm
