Anyone notice their heating bills increasing?

We have our electric bill and our heating bill. The electric bill has been pretty consistent, but our gas bill has skyrocketed. Usually less than $100... now almost $300. And we live in Dallas, where we have only had one freeze so far this winter. I can only imagine what it is like for other parts of the country. Anyone else concerned about these ridiculous heating bills?

I live in Canada and it's cold in winter, but our electric bill is only about $30 per month. I wonder why it's so cheap here. Maybe it has to do with an abundance of hydro-electricity.

Yes, I have a pre-payment meter and can't keep up with it at the moment.

Yep, mine has more that doubled. I live in the same area of north Texas. I do not run the heater often, I am a fluffy girl so I stay warm. I have a gas water heater but it is only me. I only shower every other day. I wash the laundry in cold except for the dogs bedding. I only run the dishwasher once or twice a week. I am shocked!

My electric bills have quadrupled in the past three years. Thanks green agenda. I cannot afford to eat as well as I used to and feel that. This is all so unnecessary.

Here in the UK, prices just keep going up and up. There's always some excuse to rip off the consumer.
Electricity bills have doubled recently and are due to rise further. The government has subsidised this, but that support is due to end soon.
We, like many people in rural areas, use oil for heating and over the years, it has risen and fallen for little apparent reason. It's quite high at present, but has been much higher in the past.

At a rough calculation, the rise in our pensions will just about cover the planned rise in energy costs, but because everything else will cost more, we're going to be a bit worse off.

Heating... and everything else across the board. Our electric was $95 last month... and $140 this month. Our heating oil used to be around $300 to fill the tank and the last few times it's averaging $800. My 98 cent eggs are now $5. And no sign of it changing anytime soon.

We have a contract that will be up in May...dreading re-negotiating that one. Have an all electric house. With the very unusual deep freeze we had last month it was very high. even with the contract in place. Of course that weather was brutal for almost a week. In the summer its actually been lower. Have a friend in PA that had a $400 gas bill last month and says it will be $500 this month.

Mine is that.. £340 per month for my energy bill. despite rarely having the Heating on.. this since the Ukraine /Russian war

My electric bills are not much each month....on a budget of $93 a month for a year. Below is an example of January, 2023 rates for our area.

Electricity has gone up in price. From roughly £60 a month to about £80-90 these days. However, with the ongoing Government Top-up, it's been good.

Panicked in December 2022 as the top-up usually took place on the 3rd of every months. It showed up around 15-16 December. I'd top-up manually earlier with £30 and when the gov top-up came in it covered until 6 January 2023 when the next monthly payment showed up. Currently have plenty for next fortnight. Gear! 🤣🤣🤣

Gas is on the smart meter as well. When we began heating season with a lovely steady 19°C, our radiators were too high. Did some research online and brought all down to level 3 except for two rooms to 4. We did some laundry and took showers, so electricity took a bash.

Thankfully, so far, "touch wood" the gas for heating the boiler which feeds the two sinks and the radiators came at the same price. My company wanted to raise my Direct Debit to way too much. Had a friendly chat on phone and got it adjusted to what I can afford monthly. I'd rather pay extra for the balance in 6 month's time, then choking myself just the now.

Reading other comments above, was surprised and happy to see that the prices have lowered in Canada. When we travelled for work, my highest bill monthly for gas was $76 and $56 for electricity. I've heard of ex-colleagues whom few years ago were paying upwards of $200 each services monthly. Youch, I'd always say.

Honest to goodness, I don't recall bills in the States but it was eaten up by AC and the huge, bulky fridge/freezers which made ice automatically and generated cold water in the door.

One item I miss, which wasn't expensive to run, was our drinking fountain. So sad that we couldn't get it converted to 240W from 120W to bring it with us.

PS speaking of drinking fountain, need to find a very tiny screwing head to faucet water fountain adapter for taps in bathroom (I guess I'll need to measure the connector again...) The ones I'm finding fits kitchen one's too wide for bathroom sink.

WHAT? Geez Louise! That's outrageous dear @hollydolly you need to get your system checked. Definitely not giving up proper output. Is that combo (gas/leky)? My gas for 6 months was the same as your monthly. Oh dear, so sorry but it's time to get an engineer 😔

I know Super... it's very high, 100 % more than last year... ( this is for both gas & electric) .. but they've checked my meters and there's nothing wrong with them ..

Since I moved here back in 2002 the electric rate has gone from $0.07/KWH to now $0.12/KWH. So over 20 years it has about doubled. I really can't complain. I am all electric but I supplement my heating cost with a wood burner. All my wood is free except for the exercise to cut, split & stack it.

Edit: I keep a very detailed spreadsheet on my electric usage noting any changes such as new appliances, repairs & etc… I did notice a decrease in heating cost when I kicked my girl friend out 2 years ago!

Oh I envy you @1955. We've lost our fireplace after we had to move out to smaller lodgings. Thankfully, we had used up our half cord of wood. Always worry how I'll cook and keep warm if there's a power cut. Don't have gas cooker anymore either. Takes forever to heat up cup of coffee with candles or USB heating plate. Cheers!
