Hey, how's it going today for you? It's 2023. An alternate thread for different people.

I did the laundry, walked doggie, took a shower, washed dishes, put a pork roast in the oven w/ garlic and BBQ sauce to portion for the freezer; bleached my cutting boards and sponges, took out the trash and washed kitchen surfaces and the stove.
Wow, you sure got a lot done today! That pork roast sounds so yummy. I haven't made a roast in a very long time but should one of these days. I know it feels good to get things accomplished, anything accomplished. I need to do more cleaning around here but at least it's not a mess...lol.

Oh yes ... anyone can pick it up easily, and it is great exercise, along with being fun.

The tornado hit the coast and did a lot of damage down there ... it's all headed to Florida and the Carolinas I believe.
I have never tried line dancing. I always thought it looks like a lot of fun though when I've seen others doing it. I'm on the uncoordinated side when it comes to dancing. I do still try new things like that, though, at times.. :p

We celebrated the Chinese New Year with a takeaway and made the Chinese delivery man happy by wishing him a happy new year in Chinese courtesy of Google Translate.

We must have pronounced correctly as he said thank you with a bow and he had huge smile then said: "That's great speaking... Thank you!" Made our day, daughter and I. The food was delish as usual.

That sounds so good! I love Chinese food and when I order it I usually get a lot. That's sweet how you said thank you in Chinese! I should try that!

I know. Should I live to older age and break something, I will literally have no one. I'll only have my cats to keep me motivated to keep independent.
I'm in the same boat @Remy It's scary being alone at times and thinking of these things that could happen. I try to be very careful in going down stairs although I've fallen down them twice. One time I was okay but the other time I broke my foot and ankle. I got through that okay.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry. I don't have stairs in my home but I'm in an upstairs apartment. I'm trying to find a mobile home. That will have a few stairs. It is scary.

I'm in a first floor apartment but it's actually 2 flights up of stairs. The steps I fell down the first time we're outside and the second time on the hallway steps. I go very slowly down them now.

I like mobile homes. My mom lived in one in California. It was very nice. I hope you find a nice one.

Remy, I want to share more about my accident when I broke my hip a year ago. My rehabilitation after the surgery made so much difference. It was paid for by Medicare. I had the surgery in a big municipal hospital and was there for the day of surgery and 2 more. The doctor recommended rehab for me as I'm sure they do for everyone after breaking a bone. There was a rehab on the top floor of the hospital or I could have chosen a different one. It sounded good to me to stay in the same building and not have the pain of a longer move.

So, up I went and stayed a week in rehab. I could have stayed a couple of days longer but I felt confident to go home. They were so good to me there. I had 2 kinds of rehab in 2 hour sessions each day. One was focused on improving my hip and it really helped. I was able to get a good start on strengthening other muscles while I was there. Also, I could have had more rehab at home. I agreed to it and then canceled it because I didn't think I needed it.

The other daily rehab session was focused on how to get along when I went home. It made all the difference. They showed me how to set things up to take a shower, how to use a tool to put on my socks, how to go up a few stairs, how to get into a car and how to get out of it. They showed me how to do things in the kitchen using the counters for balance and how to move heavy things. I could pick up things from the floor with a grabber.

They told me to feed my cats on one end of the bathroom counter so I didn't have to bend to the floor and not worry about cats being up there. I elevated the litter box and the cats used it OK. I know I'm forgetting things. There were many more helpful hints but the point it that they made me ready to be home alone.

So, I did have daughters available and they did check on me every day by phone but they didn't come over all the time. Someone came and took my trash out the first week but after that I was confident enough to go down 3 stairs alone and get it out.

It would be very good for you to have a friend where you live who could give you a bit of help but I was amazed at how much rehab helped me to be OK on my own.

Thank you @Myrtle That was good information and I'm glad the rehab went well for you. And it sounds relatively short. Long term care facilities try to keep people longer for the money. I'm thinking you had one of your children feed your cat? I fed my stepfather's cats when he broke his hip but I won't have that. I don't have friends and I don't think I ever will. If I were in rehab, I'd have to hire a pet service to go feed the cats. Not what I would want to do, but it's what I'd have to.

How did you lift up the litter box? I'm fine with cleaning it now but it could get harder in the future.

I did say I put the litter box up but looking back, I'm sure I did not lift that litter box at all. After a broken hip they don't want you to bend down that far much less lift any weight. I had to have asked one of the girls to set it up on the box, there was also a step stool placed close as a step up for the cats. For you this might be the in-home rehab person who could put together a make-shift solution for the cat. They would help get your house set up as well as continuing the exercises, etc.

I've thought if anything else like that happens I might call a pet sitter to visit the cats and take care of them. The girls did it without complaint but they live across town and I know it had to be a lot of trouble for them.

Ouch. Falls are serious as we get older.
One of my neighbors who was 73 at the time fell off his roof and it took him many months to recover (sort of). At 80, I am no longer "authorized" to go up there anymore. Cleaning rain gutters was a task I didn't like any way.
Falling in a hard stairway could be pretty hard on the body.

Gosh had such a busy day but super productive.

Got woken up super early by Parcel Force delivery guy for daughter's Avon. Fell asleep again, thankfully. Went out shopping for emergency supplies. Found new closet cotton panels which were half price at local, to replace the shredded white net curtains by other cat before current kitten.

Upon returning home, the remainder of our order was delivered. Completely surprised by the lipsticks Sample set of 6 for 7.95 -- they're full size and lasts for longer than my usual brand, costly at 12.99 I'm so happy lol lol lol

Watched "You've Got Mail" always makes us cry. Now after dinner it's Lee Evans Comedy DVD.

Trying to find a good chat room but not wanting senior dating sites. I gave up looking for now. Later y'all kitten wants his treats and I'm getting patted in the arm with meows!

You could gradually put less in it, long before you'd need it to be lighter. That is what I must do, and my cat is very used to it, and she does not mind at all.
It's just an idea that works for me, so I thought I'd offer it for anyone who might want to try it.
I know it might not work for you. Though one person who saw mine, started doing it, and her cats showed no hesitance or upset from it either.
You could have more than one box, with a lot less litter in each, as well.
For me, it's the only way I can manage.

Why has it become harder for me to walk downstairs than up?
That is a good question, Pepper.
I don't know, of course, but perhaps due to the different actions on the muscles and other body parts, of the 2 differing types of exercise.
Maybe going down, while at the same time, resisting any falling forward, might require more oxygen delivered to the extremities, or greater strength.
I am just generally validating that it is a different set of movements, and you are noticing the difference.

I often needed to use different methods, going up than for going down. And for preventing mishaps on the stairs, while doing each. Myself, I have finally gone thru the extreme difficulties of moving to a first floor apartment, in same building.
Take care, Pepper.
Thinking of you, and
I am also thinking of @Ruthanne
and @Blessed and others on this thread, too.

No, @Myrtle I haven't had knee injuries. I find myself shaking uncontrollably when I attempt downstairs not up.
On group hikes, I have observed that coming down off a mountain poses more problems than going up for some people and the difference is not minor. It is a different motion and uses different muscles. I always relied more on my hiking polo when coming down.

Yes, falls can be very hard on a body. It's best you stay off that roof. There are people who would come out and do that for you.
