Why do you think all the mass shooters are men and not women?

One could do an online search and find "expert" opinions, but SF has it's own experts and probably better.

Toxic masculinity? Male grievance culture? 🤷‍♀️

Since back in the 60’s when I think it started being tallied, men have committed about 95% of all mass shootings. its also mostly males who shoot people in robberies, road rage incidents, and things like domestic violence. Also according to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, men committed 91.3% of all murders in 2019 (the most recent year available) and also 81.2% of all violent crimes, (that’s using the Bureau of Justice Statistics data analysis tool.)

I’ve read some about this. It’s a fact that men commit more violent crimes than women do, but there’s not a lot of actual scientific data as to why. Lots of guesswork, opinions, surmising, (possibly even some projection lol) but very little actual factual data that answers the question.

History has shown that men are the aggressors and appear to be much angrier and controlling than women. Also, for some men, not all, their firearm is an extension of their 'manhood'...or a replacement for it. Men like these are frustrated cowards and incels. Some are racist or childish and petulant.

Most gun owners are good people who have never harmed an innocent with their firearms. Mass shooters are gun nutters who are full of hate and have low self-esteem. My heart goes out to the innocent victims of these mass shootings, I would just hope that the scumbags would just blow their own heads off and spare innocent lives. That won't happen though, they are too selfish.

Actually it's because of our testosterone!
Yes. but not only that. Many with healthy testosterone never harm anyone, gun or no gun.

It's also because of the lack of parenting, lack of anyone at home or at school to care about a boy, use of drugs, terrible influences from so many sources, gangs, lack of exposure to opportunity to learn to care for others, bullying in school and at home (true for most school shooters, mental illness and many more reasons. Yes, some people are born bad but most are made bad. We could go on and on with causes.

Edited to add: Youth. It's mostly young men. I once read that almost all men who enter prison are young. I believe it said that acts of crime drop drastically after the age of 35.

It's a sickness of the soul which can come from many sources. The gun is only a tool, not a cause, not the perpetrator.

There are angry women. A few days ago a woman with 2 small children was loading groceries in a Kroger parking lot. Somehow she got into an argument with another woman. She turned her back to finish loading groceries and the young woman she had been arguing with shot her in the back, killing her. This is absolutely senseless. What made that young woman do that? I assume it wasn't testosterone.

I think women think about all the after effects.

Hmmm,, "Do I really want to murder that person?"

"How Can I do it ,, where would the best place to do it?"

"Where to hide the body?"

"Do I really want to go to prison,,, I don't look good orange jump suits,"

By then the woman might fall asleep,,,.
LOL! All of those Big Berthas in prison is enough to keep me clean and on the straight and narrow! 🤣

Interesting thread @Chet thanks for starting it.

My sense is that we (men) evolved to be more aggressive. Men can reproduce with lots of women and have a lot of offspring. The number of offspring we can have is mostly limited by the number of women we can impregnate. This is the basic driver of evolution. Women on the other hand are much more limited; far fewer potential offspring.

I believe the result is men can benefit from driving off or killing their competition. So we have genes that make us more aggressive, and likely and able to kill. Fortunately humans also have the intellectual ability to suppress these instinctive drives, mostly... It is one of the things that sets our species apart from other animals.

Women also have some competitive instinct, more to preserve resources to make their offspring safer and healthier. So women have an instinctive desire for a faithful supportive spouse.

I think things like more testosterone have evolved as a result of all this, and likely do contribute to our nature.

Fortunately the vast majority of men living in our civilized world can suppress murderous urges and never kill anyone. We need to figure out how to make the number who cannot control these instincts even smaller.

Actually not all, just an overwhelming majority:
Mass shootings in the U.S.: shooters by gender 2023 | Statista

As to the why...multiple reasons the various articles people are posting touch on.

My own first thought is that i suspect a woman who's reached a breaking point is much more likely target specific individual or individuals she feels harmed her or are a tangible threat to her (or her children) then some 'group' of people they view as some existential threat to their existence (or more often their self-image, self-importance) as some men do.

i do think women are as capable of violence and doing bodily harm--just it is generally (not always) more personal for a woman--retribution, vengence. While there have been notorious cases of female serial killers (around the world) all too often if a male perp was involved as well it is assumed HE instigated the actions, and that's not always the case.
