Do you check your Blood Pressure?

I have my annual BP check at the doctors next week where I’ll get a reading so high it should be send for the ambulance.
So I’m checking mine so I can hand over the readings!
118/71 today…which is pretty damn good!
Should my BP medication be lowered I wonder?
I shall ask....

That sounds good but if you are taking medication that is why it is in control. I doubt they will want to change your medication as you are doing so well. Mine was high at the doctor last week, I take medication so I don't know why it was high other than I was recovering from a migraine.

I take 40mg. Lisinopril daily and check my blood pressure a couple of times a week. It is usually within parameters. For a while my blood pressure was always high at the doctors office. Since I had to quit driving it has gotten much better. Also for some reason the minute the cuff was put on my arm I would start stressing out. I too wonder if I need to lower my BP medicine. Every time I stand up I feel like I am going to faint. If I stand up any slower I will not standup.

Do you take your monitor in when you have your pressure checked to see how it compares with theirs? I do every year just to make sure it's still accurate enough.

I have exactly the same as you furry, we call it ‘White coat syndrome’, my blood pressure is always sky high at the doctors so I have to monitor mine for a week and give him the readings for my records

I have one of those new monitors, but I'm not good at keeping track. Most of the time it's pretty steady, unless I forget to take my pills.

I don't but the doctors have learnt to trust my readings.
When they were consistently much higher before Covid I told them and they played around with my BP meds until it came down.
In 12 years since I was diagnosed with high BP I have never had a remotely normal reading at the GP.

I try to take mine once a week. The last few years it has under control using BP meds. Although at times I do get the White Coat syndrome at the doctors.

Seriously though, mine is mostly around 98/66 and has been in that same range for decades.

Nah. But every Kaiser Permanente doctor's visit an assistant does so. As a small thin old guy that uses a lot of salt on food haha, its always been low to average. So genes again I'll guess.

I check it about once a week. I have had HBP since I was 50. It’s genetic on my mom’s side of the family.

No I don't. I'm not on BP meds. Sounds like white coat hypertension, which I have myself.

At the docs my BP was 136/86.
which is quite good for a reading at the docs!

I have high BP inherited from
Mum and it’s always high

A few years ago I had to have the BP monitor fitted for 24hrs
Useless as they tell you to relax most of the time
Lol me relax ? I wish I could
And when it goes off you have to stop everything
Very difficult when your in the middle of showering hubby

In the end the thing went of so much and was blowing my arm up so ripped it off
I don’t bother with checks now !!!

In the UK you can have your bp checked for free at any pharmacy. I believe they will also do a blood sugar check if you have diabetes

They have one morning a week, where you can go ,and check your own BP in the drs surgery
not one of them was right , I heard !….

I only check it before a Dr. Appointment. Then I take a picture of the reading so that I can show him because I know it will be sky high when his assistant takes it.

A few years ago when I was going through my horrible health anxiety I checked it every day along with everything else.
Those days are over, thank goodnes.

I only check before a doctor's visit. At home it's almost always lower. At my age, anything less than 150/90 is good and it is thanks to doxazosin.

I rarely take mine at home.
But, at the doctor's office when the M.A. takes it, they squeeze that cuff so tight I feel like I'm going to pass out.

Not a good way to get an accurate reading...
