Are people still wearing masks where you live?

Few wear them here, but I do. I'll eat in restaurants and of course take the mask off while actually eating. If the restaurant is moderately busy I'll keep the mask on until the food arrives, but if nobody is seated nearby I'll take it off when I arrive. I have not gone to a very busy restaurant since the pandemic started. In stores and other indoor public spaces I'll keep it on the whole time.
 
For the most part, few people in my area can be seen wearing masks, except at medical offices where they are still mandatory. The very elderly or the clearly health-compromised can also be seen wearing masks. I’ve seen workers who have contact with large numbers of the public wearing masks as well, and I can hardly blame them for taking that precaution…
 
So, yesterday I answered that I had not seen anyone with a mask for a long time. This morning I went to a store and there was a young woman wearing a mask. Of course, I did not approach her but having said I wasn't seeing masks anymore just yesterday made me aware that I avoid people with a mask. Maybe a better description than avoid would be that I give them their space because the mask says they want it. I tend to smile at people if they pass in an aisle of the store but not the masked lady. A mask changes the dynamic.
 
I wear a mask simply because of my allergies and have a sensitive tooth that bothers me when I walk in the cold windy air. I haven't had a cold or sore throat since 2020. It has nothing to do with the pandemic but found there were benefits to wearing one. At my age I could care less what others think of me. I also wear white after Labor Day & sweats are my daily choice of dress.

Same here, @SeniorBen ... if someone is so bored or cranky that they actually care whether or not a stranger is wearing a mask, I feel sorry for their obviously bland life. No one in my family has been sick since the end of 2019 (knock on wood) and before the masks, we all caught something or other every single year, and often more than once a year. 😷🤒

Its good responsible people wear masks when they need to, but I've noticed the little thugs around here wear them when entering convenience stores and wander around checking the place out. You see them on the news robbing hard working people and threatening them with knives.
should be a sign up saying "Remove masks when entering store". We have Banks that have signs up saying, "Please remove helmets when entering Bank".

It's not a charade. You may not like wearing a mask, but they can help. I don't personally wear them, not now. That's not a political statement, I just really, really, hated wearing a mask. When Covid was at its height, I reluctantly wore them for the greater good, since I'm part of a society, and getting along with others is part of the deal.
 
I'm not sure some understand the need for masks. While masks may offer some protection from being infected, their main purpose is to stop the wearer from infecting others. I think if you may be ill with a "bug" wearing a mask is a considerate thing to do.
BTW, people wearing masks doesn't freak out others as it did before the pandemic. It's no big deal anymore.
 
Yes. My wife has a kidney condition which prohibits her from taking the drugs that speed recovery from Covid and is immune suppressed so she wears a mask indoors and wherever it isn’t possible to maintain adequate spacing. As her most likely vector, I do too but wouldn’t otherwise. I think it is unpleasant for some people to be reminded that some still have that need. But, you know, screw them.

It’s a big deal in my area and seen as a political statement. I have been yelled at,in a doctor’s office no less, by a woman for wearing a mask!

That's why I never wore a mask, because I'm immune to viruses.
Immune people like me who never wore masks are the reason the pandemic is now over.
Because we've been considerate this whole time by spreading our immunity around to others.
Thank goodness for people like me who've been saving the whole rest of the world. It hasn't been easy.
There are still some people who think poisoning themselves is a helpful solution but they're wrong about that.

I see the odd one still wearing masks. At hospital appointments the letter still says to wear them but it seems not enforced.
I do know of three people ill with covid at present, so it hasn't gone.
