"It behaves like no other corn I've distilled," says Scott Blackwell, co-founder of High Wire Distilling in Charleston, S.C. "The pearls of oil on the distillate taste of marzipan and light cherry — not corn."

"This is what grits must have tasted like a hundred years ago," says Forrest Parker, chef de cuisine at The Drawing Room, at the Vendue Hotel in Charleston's historic French Quarter.

This 1979 photo shows an employee at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California opening the world's heaviest hinged door, which was eight feet thick, nearly twelve feet wide, and weighed 97,000 pounds.

A special bearing in the hinge allowed a single person to open or close the door. The door protected the Rotating Target Neutron Source Il (RTNS-l), the world's most intense source of continuous fusion neutrons.

Most caterpillars make sounds to scare off birds that prey on them. About 1/3 of these caterpillars make sounds with their mouths by clicking their teeth together, or rapidly repeating a spitting sound, which, from a bird's perspective sounds a bit like a tiny machine gun, or by belching. The other 2/3 make sounds with their anuses. Basically, they save their own asses by farting.

I, myself, have startled a few birds by farting (unplanned), but only small ones...birds, that is. I doubt I could discourage some huge bird of prey from attacking me by farting, butt hoo but who knows? It'd be worth trying.
You are a blast.....

In the movie, Jaws, actress Lee Fiero played the mother of Alex Kintner, the kid who was partially eaten by the shark. About 20 years after the movie's release, she went into a seafood shop and saw on the menu a sandwich called The Alex Kintner.

She told a waiter that she played Alex's mother, and the waiter ran to get the restaurant's sandwich-maker....who was none other than Jeffrey Voorhees, the guy who played her son, Alex Kintner.

They hadn't seen each other since the movie wrapped. Pretty cool, huh?

Hope she got a free sandwich.

The Eiffel Tower was originally intended for Barcelona.

but leaders of the Spanish city thought the structure was too ugly to keep. While no official documentation exists surrounding the decision, rumor has it that Gustave Eiffel, owner of the company that constructed the landmark, had to re-pitch the plan after Catalan officials called things off.

Unfortunately for Spain, this may have proved an overwhelmingly costly decision in the long run. The Eiffel Tower remains one of the most popular monuments in the world, attracting over seven million visitors each year.

Michelangelo's Moses is a marble sculpture made in 1513–15. One of the many details of this masterpiece is one very small muscle in the forearms that contracts only when lifting the pinky, otherwise it is invisible. Moses is lifting his pinky, therefore that tiny muscle is contracted.

"The Largest Intact Mosaic. Antakya Turkey. Sixth Century"

"Spanning over 1200 sq meters and made up of geometric shapes and non-repeating figures. Was probably created as a public space at the time. One of the most fascinating aspects of this mosaic is curved rug like surface which grew curved as a result of earthquakes in 526 and 528 AD. Despite the earthquakes the mosaic never broke and survived to the present date intact and unbroken. It took 9 years to unearth."
