Amazon Getting a Bit Tricky With Their Free Shipping.

Incidentally be careful.. I rarely ever get spam it always goes into my junk mail.. but yesterday and today I've had a mail supposedly from Amazon.. telling me that the card I use to pay for Prime has been blocked, and I need to click on the link to pay using a different card.. or words to that effect. The thing is that it started off by addressing me as Dear Customer.. then the next mails came addressing me by name at my hotmail address.. Dear Holly@hotmail.. etc.. and it says we need to take payment of $13.99 if your Prime membership is not to be blocked.

I wasn't taken in by them, because firstly Amazon addresses me by my full given name.. then they wouldn't be asking me for payment in Dollars ( plus that monthly amount is wrong)... and thirdly.. I don't pay for Amazon monthly.. my husband pays for it annually.. so no payment comes from me in the first place..

..but if you're off guard this can easily catch you out...so be very careful.. I've blocked those mails now.. but just so you all know this one is doing the rounds

Well, yesterday and today we've made two purchases from Amazon. A batch of the special toothpaste and mouth washes that we prefer (just happens that the company also sells through Amazon as well as their own website) and ... turns out that my husband bought the complete Magnum PI series (all seasons), so ...

I also buy a fair number of e-books via Amazon, many of which include some extra credits ... after they pile up enough, I can use them for future purchases. It's not much but, hey ...

I did find, some time back (pandemic) that Amazon Prime was taking longer to deliver a while back, but they seem to be back to the Prime 2-day delivery.

(Wish I could get the one-day delivery, @hollydolly!)

I wonder why you can't.. I have to say I'm surprised you don't.....is the nearest Amazon hub a long way from you?

I had Prime way back when, but I didn't think if was worth it. I don't use Amazon much, but sometimes it's the best option. Usually, I do better at ebay or Walmart. Books and DVDs are almost always cheaper on ebay. Walmart shipping is usually free as with ebay, but watch closely on those shipping costs.

I don't think it's a long way from us, and I believe that we can go to an Amazon locker for many things — but hubby is not interested in that, so we wait our {sob} two days. LOL!
yes we too can go to an Amazon locker.. but with one day delivery and me at home and not at work any more.. I never use the pickup points... handy tho' for people who live in flats ( apartment blocks) where a delivery man might find it difficult to get into the building..

When I lived in rural Nebraska the Amazon Next Day seemed to take two days but I think the cutoff time to order for next day delivery was early in the day maybe. Now that I've moved to the suburbs of a big city lots of items let me choose between next day morning and next day afternoon, and some items even have same day delivery (but only free if I order $35 of stuff).

Devi..I'm going to make you throw up your arms in despair..lol.. I'm on Amazon now, just before I go to bed ( 2.30am)..the order I'm about to put in my basket says if I order now it will be delivered by 7.30pm this evening ...so, same day...:D

I've only had that happen twice.. almost always it's one day delivery here with Prime.. if I order before 6pm today it'll be here tomorrow..
Location, location, location. Our nearest hub is 400 km away. Many things come from the Toronto hub so it is 3000 km. If it comes from somewhere in Asia, it can be much longer. As long as I get it, I’m fairly content. A couple of the couriers they use here are useless. I could see an item sitting in a warehouse for 5 days before I put in a complaint. So they sent it back to source. Had to wait for over a week to have it sent from another source in the US.

I order from Amazon but dislike how they keep trying to shove their "Prime" down my throat. They are also very sneaky in trying to make sure you pay shipping when the product is advertised as free shipping with an order of $35 or more. I never answer their comments about their products. Life is just too short!

I buy from Amazon, and have prime, they do some fair
TV programmes and I like the free next day shipping,
hollydolly has listed all that we get from prime, so I too,
think that it is a good deal.

Anything here that has shipping added, is either large
and heavy, or is coming straight from the factory, if it
is coming from Amazon, there is no charge, either for
delivery or returns.

If I do a return and print the label, my self, then take it
to a shop at the end of a nearby street, if I have authorised
that the money be returned to my Amazon account, then
the money is there before I get home, very handy, as long
as you don't need the money back as you cannot get it out
from there, you need to spend it with them.

I’m another who LOVES Amazon Prime.
Since I live in a rural area I never get same day service but they DO have excellent service. While I don’t often return items, lately there were two items I needed to and was VERY pleased .

It was SUPER easy to do so. Instructions are well displayed including printing off the label and so far I haven’t had to pay for any shipping including returns. Like @Mike says, the money is in my account immediately after I’ve shipped it . No waiting for it to arrive first. That’s impressive.

I LOVE the free shipping and the free e-books. Lately I haven’t been reading but hopefully will get back into it again. I’ve got a book I promised someone I’d read and I very much like to keep my promises.

I wait to purchase until I get the minimum $25.00 for free shipping.
I have noticed they make it more difficult to purchase that way;
you have to go back and search for "review order " to change it.
That's what I do as well, Gaer. I'm rarely in a big hurry to get anything, and if it's that important I'll just go out and buy it locally.

I just put items I want into my "Cart" and click "Save for later". Then when I see that I have enough to get free shipping, I move them back to the cart and place the order. Pretty simple really.

All in all, we've been happy with Amazon.

Most ebay items here are not free shipping...
I have not found that to be the case over here, but even when I order DVDs from the UK, they have been shipped free and at a lower cost to boot. Some DVDs are available sooner in the UK than here, and some are never available here. Go figure. Now if you want a specific item, and you call it up on the ebay engine, you will likely find 50 individual sellers, and many, sometime most, will charge for shipping, but some will be free, sometimes as many as half of them will be. But you always have the option to sort the item in one of four ways, and I sort it by "lowest price including shipping" The first items are usually priced low and free shipping, but as you get farther down the list, prices will be wacky high, with shipping bordering on the absurd. So I suppose you could argue that most charge for shipping. I just don't pay for shipping, unless the total price is lower. But I've also encountered that on Amazon, although a lot less often. I was recently looking at a bath robe at Amazon for $30 and shipping was an extra $39. I didn't buy it. You have to pay close attention to shipping costs, always.

I never pay for shipping.. I have prime... so I don't pay for shipping out of pocket... most ebay sellers charge for shipping, unless they're a company... when I buy , on the odd occasion... from Ebay I always search out free or very low shipping. When I sell on Ebay I always charge shipping because my items are heavy. If I did a BIN auction I;d include thsipping in the price, but as I like to start at a low price in as a regular auction.. then Shipping has to be included..

Yes I know hollydolly, but it can take up to a week, as I intend
to replace the thing returned, it is better to put it into my Amazon
Account, where it is available to spend immediately.

Mike.
