Reflections of My Life

she was a what, Kat ?... custodian of what ?.... OMG.kudos to your police, ours wouldn't get out of bed for a theft like that !

I hope this means she will lose her job...
She was a custodian at the hospital where he was having his test done, an MRI. Oh yeah, she will lose her job. Probably already has. The Johnson City police were on it immediately.

I was sitting in a lab waiting room one time, and going into
my wallet to find insurance card, there was several $$$ bills in
the wallet, I noticed a man who was about to leave, stop, look
down at my wallet, then looked around the room, decided to
leave without stealing my money/wallet....i could tell just from
his eyes that he would have done it......
Good thing you were holding onto it.

It seems strange to me not getting phone calls from Sonny. He has called me every morning since I moved here as soon as he wakes up to say, "Good Morning, I love you Baby." I think I took him for granted. The last few years I don't see him as often as I used to when our relationship was new. He has serious health issues plus he is so into the racing community and that takes a lot of his time. On holidays I always encourage him to spend them with his family because he can see me any old time. His family gets together on the holiday and I think it is important for him to share it with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids. He has a lot of them.

So it ends up that the only time I see him is when he takes me shopping or I have an appointment. Otherwise with the price of gas and his car being broken down it has been even less time. He bought this old truck to use till he can get his car fixed and I wouldn't say it to him because I appreciate him driving me, but I hate that truck. It is that smallest Nissan truck and so uncomfortable. My walker barely fits in the back seat. He always wants to put it in the bed of the truck but I won't let him and that annoys him. I expect something to break down on this truck. It is already scheduled to have a new gas tank put on this month.

I like trucks, just depends on the kind. We had a Dodge Dakota and I loved it. I drove it all the time. It did not drive like a truck at all. Even my father was impressed. I took him for a ride in it when I first got it and he said, "this does not feel like a truck at all." He was very critical of vehicles having worked on them and worked as a mechanic. Everyone wanted him to fix their cars.

I made the cornbread flavored chaffles yesterday. These are different than the other ones so I only made one batch. I wanted them to have less carbs and the original recipe used pork rinds, coconut flour and almond flour. These I used pork rinds and Carnivore Crisps grass fed beef flour.........Oooh, a game changer for sure! They are very good and even the texture is better (I think, for me). I will be making more.

I was on my computer today but not on any social media. I worked on the story I am writing. Up to 400 pages on the document. Not sure how many pages that would be if it was in a book form. I really got into the story and did not want to stop. Lots of things happening in it. Because it is historical I have to keep checking facts. Plus it takes place in the area I live in and one of the main characters has a business so have to keep checking facts about that during the years it takes place.

I have a separate document where I keep track of people's names and dates and who they are. Why am I writing this? I have no idea. I just enjoy doing it. I have been the type of person who always sees a better ending to a movie or a book. Now when I get off my computer I will sit in my recliner and watch videos but that story will be running through my mind. So I keep paper nearby so I can write notes as I think of them.

Today the contractors put down the new carpeting in the apartment next door. It probably looks good. It is a nice bright one bedroom, though I don't like the kitchen. A galley kitchen that you can walk through to the living room. Too small for me since I like to cook. If my maintenance man unlocks it tomorrow I will sneak in to look at it.

The other apartment on the other side of me had the ceiling fall down! The office assistant brought the woman in who was going to be renting it and when they walked in the ceiling had fallen down! Can you imagine? All because of a leaky water heater in the apartment above! Sure glad it didn't happen in mine.

I was pretty busy today and kept thinking I would get here but never made it till now. I have written two blog posts in two days. Worked on my story because I can't put it down. Kind of like when you are reading a book and don't want to stop. This is better though because the story is in your own head. I make a story board but don't always follow it. The story takes me where it wants to go I guess.

I drove Jazzy to the Grand Union this afternoon. I rarely go out in the late afternoon but needed more bunny food. Our sidewalks are all torn up because they are being repaired. Route 12 which is the main road running through Norwich will be repaved I believe in September. They are doing all the preliminary work now though. I am not complaining..........especially about the sidewalks. I will be happy when they are all nice and smooth. I always watch the sidewalk because I do not want to ruin my new tires or casters.

Plus I vacuumed and did other house work. Nice and cozy in here tonight.....and cold! I keep the air conditioner on until I go to bed because I can't sleep with it blowing on me. But it is already cooled off in here so I don't need it on during the night.

I am curious as to what has happened to my new neighbor. He moved in and I have talked to him a few times. Seems a little confused. The last time I saw him was Monday, I was on Jazzy on the way to the Grand Union and he was on a bicycle on his way to the bank. Have not seen or heard him since. He has 2 notes pinned to his door. I hope he is okay. He seems pretty nice.

My new aide called in sick (YES! All ready!) last Wednesday. Then left a text message on Monday that she was still not feeling well. Didn't come on Wednesday or yesterday. Or call. The agency (Committed Care) guy, Jason, called yesterday to see if she had worked. I told him no and that she had called in last Wed. He called me back and said she will be back on Monday. That she complained that I have 15 hours a week available for an aide but I only use 2 each day and that there is nothing for her to do. I told him, yes, that's correct. I told him I don't know why they have me down for 15 hours a week but I only need about 1-2 hours for the whole week.

To be honest, I don't like having an aide. I really don't. I feel relieved when they don't show up. I never think that I won't get my house clean because they didn't come here. The reason is because I keep it clean. It is never messy. Well, it was kinda during the bed bug spraying thing. Jason wants me to keep the aide just in case I will eventually need the whole 15 hours. That makes no sense to me. I told him I only have this aide service because Fidelis Care, the supplemental insurance company through Medicaid, will not pay for my dental or vision without it. For some stupid reason that nobody seems to know why.

Monday, I am calling the office of the aging and speak to someone who knows the answers to these questions. Right now I am in the middle of getting my dental work done and I want it finished. So didn't want to upset the apple cart. Yet.

Well, I had a VERY stressful day yesterday. The morning went along fine. I did a lot of chores, walked, had breakfast went downstairs and got a package that was delivered. Pretty quiet. I heard a backing alert so looked out the window and saw the emergency squad was here. Nothing new about that, they come here all the time. Then I see the fire marshal park his vehicle and get out and walk toward the ramp. Now that put me on alert..........

I went out in the hall and heard voices in the stairwell so put my shoes on and went there to see what was going on. About that time, my neighbor's daughter comes out of her apartment and says to me that her mother is stuck in the elevator with another lady. The two oldest residents living here. One is almost 99 and the other in her 80's...........YIKES! It took a bit but they got them out. So of course, the emergency squad had to bring them up the stairs (which are very steep as you all know).

The maintenance man arrived pretty quick and after he was here the elevator repairman was here. And he was here most of the afternoon and we could not use the elevator. Before he left, he removed the sign not to use it. I wonder how come things like this always happen on the week-end?

Seeing how they brought my neighbor up those stairs makes me know I do not want to ever be in that position. I am not one for thrilling rides at a fair. I am now researching better ways to get up and down stairs on your own. I feel like I might be in a better position to do something since I think I have lost weight and improved my health (and knees & legs) these past months.

They put her on this seat thing and strapped her into it and one guy in back and one in front and carried her up the stairs. Yes, the guys were strong but even a strong guy could fumble. I know I could move into a different apartment somewhere else but I really love my apartment and the location is perfect for me. So not even thinking about that. My neighbor is a teeny tiny lady so she was not that hard to bring upstairs.............her mobile chair seemed to be much harder for them.

I found these on Amazon but am still researching.

Or this one.

They both had pretty good reviews and with Amazon you can always return it if it doesn't work for you. I can see good things about both of them, but they are not cheap. The first one is $89. and the second one is $124. So I would have to plan for it over a few months time to buy it. My stairs are very steep so not the same as these in the pictures.

It’s funny Kat, but I never had a problem with those stairs. Maybe because it was because I was in my early teens? Lol
They are very steep as I recall and I would have a very hard time navigating then at my age. Oh, and why cant they fix that darn elevator once and for all?

Now the other thing I wanted to tell you about is my new neighbor. He was not around for a few days, well he showed up yesterday. After the elevator was fixed. With his bicycle, a bag of groceries and his friend with his bicycle. They were hot and sweaty and he was knocking on my door. He could not get into his apartment because it seems he has lost his keys. Nobody working here on Friday afternoon (even with the elevator problem). I called the maintenance man and left a message on his phone but he never returned my call. Today, even though it is Saturday, I will leave a message on the office phone and then call the emergency number (answering service).

New guy buzzed my intercom when he came home yesterday because he had no keys. So I let him but I hate that loud buzz of that thing. He went back out (I put his milk in my refrigerator) and back tracked everywhere he had been looking for his keys. Even reported it to the police. He came back and I let him in the building again. Now he is sleeping downstairs in the community room. I gave him his milk to take with him since there is a refrigerator down there. Two couches and it is cooler since it is in the basement.

After he left I remembered that I forgot to tell him where the bathroom is. I hope he finds it. Or asks someone who might be down there. He is confused and VERY needy. I do not want to be the person he comes to for help. That is why I live alone in the first place. He said he has bad legs and needed to get off them. I hope he got some sleep down there.

Those stairs were made for kids. You probably ran up and down those things. Even slid down the railing. I stand at the top and look down and give up without trying one step. It is amazing to me how many people here who cannot walk without a walker will navigate those stairs just to get outside. I want to do that too but I am so scared of stairs.

Kat I remember a photo you put of those stairs. My ex husband who suffers from severe COPD.. and is recovering from prostate cancer, lives on the 3rd.. top .. floor of an apartment building with steep stairs like yours.. only they have no lift.

He struggles greatly to go out... has to wait for a day when he feels he has enough breath.. to get downstairs... but it's a different matter when he returns because the stairs are like Mount Everest for him, and it can take up to 30 minutes for him to eventually get up to his apartment, and he's exhausted, completely breathless which can take an hour or more to return to normal even using his Nippy machine .

Just minutes ago, I found the two step cane on amazon and ordered it for my Wife, who has balance problems and is recovering. It is to come on the 29th. How bout that!

We also had a U-Step Walker from amazon delivered to help in her recovery. It is the most stable and secure walker! It has been the Keystone to her recovery plan!

I am leaning more toward the two step one myself. I think the other one will be difficult for me to put my foot on that little step to step up from.

It is the U Step Neural Walker. It has an optional "Cue Module" for people with Parkinson. It can project a red laser line on the floor to step on, and a metronome feature to set your pace. We did not need that option, but as I understand it folks with Parkinson can "freeze up" and this feature can help that. The walker is available on amazon.

I have always been kind of scared of stairs to begin with. It is harder with my knees. At my house I had steep stairs but would go down them backwards which I could do. But going up them I just held onto the rail. Now it is harder but the stairs are so steep and scary. I don't know how your ex manages to do that. It is so hard to do even without breathing issues.

I will show that one to my friend who has Parkinson.

It's horrendous for him tbh... really is... and he's applied for sheltered housing, but he's getting nowhere. he even applied for meals on wheels.. to prevent him having to go shopping for food.. but they were so awful he couldn't eat the food...

The other day I had to do some shopping for him.. and I'm relatively fit.. but by the time I'd climbed up the first 20 stairs, my knees were really hurting... and I still had 20 to go... next time I go there I'll take a photo of those stairs..

That is horrible. If he was here they would put him at the top of the list for emergency housing. That's what they did for me and I was just trying to leave a house that had no running water or electric.

I called the emergency maintenance this morning for the new guy. I should have called it yesterday because as soon as I called it, our maintenance man was here. New guy got back into his apartment. Later him and his buddy went to a thrift store he had been to yesterday.......and there were his keys on the counter where he had left them! So he is all taken care. Except he needs to make some extra keys.
