How do you feel when you're cut off from your TV and internet?

"It was a dark and stormy night" :) , which blew down towers and soaked electrical equipment. I was without TV, my land line and the internet for most of the day. When you're used to googling anything, like where Enderet is, (Mongolia) being without it, is like being lost at sea. No TV- no favorite programs-no comforting routine. And you do stupid things. Like trying to google, where the nearest free wifi is? Duh. I called my int. service provider to report the outage, they directed me to their web site. DUH????? Without my TV and the net, I felt like those 1800s settlers in a covered wagon. How do you feel when you're cut off from your TV and internet?
 

i feel motivated to exercise and do things on my to do list ..... most of the time TV and internet are procrastination for me.
 

For 20 years Internet was essential for work from home and panic was always my first reaction when it went down.

Now, I'm still trying to get used to it not mattering if it goes down for awhile. Since it's mostly only entertainment now I can always read a book.
 
I hate it on the extremely rare occasion when our Internet goes down. That said, for TV, we have a little black antenna that works, and we usually watch movies and series on DVD. That doesn't help with the no Internet (or phone) situation, though.
 
It depends on whether I have work to do involving the internet or if there's a sporting event I want to know about.
 
Like there are important things happening that I don't get to know about. I keep the laptop and tablet charged for just such an event, though.

Way back in the way back, we waited patiently for the daily newspaper that was delivered around suppertime. Come to think of it, way back in the way back, we rarely lost power. Very rarely.
 
I've found that I can't watch TV without my phone nearby because just a minute later I need to look up something I've seen on TV.

TV isn't interesting but looking stuff up is.

Often I look up imdb to see if the actor I think I'm seeing in old movies and TV shows is listed as a cast member.

A good example is The Thin Man 1934.
Is that guy with the mustache Cesar Romero? Sure nuff.

I usually feel angry at myself for not having thought ahead and downloaded some lectures to listen to when going to sleep. Or, if I have downloaded some TV shows and lectures, I feel very restricted/confined to only have those limited choices (and sometimes wonder why I thought they'd be good choices - "Lost in Space - what the heck was I thinking?!").

It is particularly disruptive for a game I play that can only be played when connected to the internet. I don't know of any really fun games that I can play offline, tho I have a wordsearch game on my kindle that I play on trips when out of contact with wifi (thankfully that happens less than in the past).
 
I hate losing my TV and internet.
It's almost a certainty that the TV and internet go out around here during storms.
It seems to happen just when I want to pay my bills on line.
I can't watch my DVDs because the TV or DVD player can't come on.
I can't read in the dim light from the windows.
I don't want to use my cell phone much because I can't recharge it when it gets low.
I can't work outside due to the storm.
So I just go to bed.
Luckily I have a gas stove so at least we can eat.

We used to compete in Latin & Ballroom dancing, my wife's work, in the ambulance service, was shifts around the clock. We had to organise our social life around my wife's shift pattern. Work, dancing and her dressmaking left little time for much else, so much so that we didn't bother buying a television for many years. We had a radio but our music listening came from the jukebox that we have.

It's so rare not to have a TV that we never admitted it. When asked: "Did you see so & so?" We would just say, "No, I missed it, was it good?" For some reason it used to be perceived as snobbish not to have a television, no idea why. As for the internet, I'm useless, don't understand any of the terminology, never bothered with e-mail, never been able to get the internet on my phone even though it has that facility, not really bothered though. If we had kids and therefore grandchildren, it might all have been different. They talk a gobble-de-gook language that leaves me cold.

I don't have grandchildren...I still managed to find my way around the Internet back over 20 years ago when we first got it..:)
 
Losing TV and internet means having a power outage, which can become inconvenient at best, particularly if I didn't get my first cup of coffee made before. I don't care about TV, DISH is garbage, only have because DW has her shows...

I can always hit the internet on my phone during a power outage, or go eat a piece of un-toasted bread, maybe go water my plants...
 
Desperate. I immediately get out my cell phone to check what caused the power outage and the estimated time for it to be off. I then decide what I need in case this is a prolonged event. I can still use the internet and can tether my ipad to it.
