Since I'm typing this, I have some idea about how to work a computer. But I happened to be checking out my keyboard, and it dawned on me that I know little about what some buttons do. Really when was the last time you used the "numlk" ? Why are there two "alt"s, and two "ctrl"s? What's "fn" do? What does a "F6" do that a "<" doesn't?
That's only the keyboard, how computer literate are you?
Every keyboards I've used since the first time in 64, I've had various settings. I was lucky to have the chance to use my brother-in-law's IBM SELECTRIC. Later on Papa bought ne a manual Olympia typewriter. Something different again, to this day still hate them T-bars typing sticks style lol!
PC, laptop, tablet or phone, all have a different style.
In case you want to know, NUMLK is to make sure that you can use the keyboard for accounting purposes aka it locks the letters out and give you numbers. Good application for someone typing loads of numbers eg as in typing accounting sheets.
Then again, some newer keyboards will have a dedicated NUMBER PAD.
From the time I did my long 2 years commercial courses, I've been typing non stop lol, sort of. Tablet here, Google visual keyboard it's one index finger only. On my laptop whenever I'm writing my fictional stories, it's all ten fingers with straight line resting finger patterns in keyboard. The sequence is:
ASDFG LEFT HAND
HJKL RETURN KEY RIGHT HAND
RIGHT HAND OR LEFT HAND THUMB FOR SPACE BAR.
Yes, the problem of being ambidextrous lol...
Those wee raised bump on two letters on keyboards in the middle, that's a guide to place your fingers, it's also useful for visually impaired typists. It also helps if youre, like myself, typing in the middle of the night with minimum lighting.
I've used with various equipment and systems, 8" storage disks, 3,5" diskettes, magnetic IBM storage cards. I've had harddrive of multiple capacities over the years. It's a constant learning curve.
Thankfully, these days you can search about anything and everything online. As in general they say, just Google it lol. I bing it via edge lol.
Husband learned from my experience and it got him promoted at work, but poor darling even though he was fast, his mouse skills for draughting was amazing. His typing remained at two fingers only.
So, I've got a few years under my belt...
