What food price increase caused you to stop buying

Cold cereal. Please don't tell me it's processed and full of sugar. I already know that. I buy the off brands that don't have any weird vitamins and such: Enviro kidz, Cascadian Farms, Barbara's. They used to be on sale for $3.50 a box or so. Now they are about 8-9 dollars and hardly ever on sale at the health food stores.

I'm still very pleased with the Oat-ly barista milks I got at the grocery outlet for 99 cents a quart.
wow $9 a box of cereal ?...

Yes, it's gotten nuts. Have to get some at Trader Joe's if the ingredients are OK for me or hope for a score at Grocery Outlet, or find them on sale, which is becoming rare. Not that I need them.
At our age we do need to consume good healthy food. Food is medicine. What you exclude like sugar and salt are just as important to building health as what you do eat. I can't skimp on food. I just have to pay more and stay healthy by eating the healthiest foods. It would cost more if I got sick from NOT eating the good food that costs more. I've noticed that so far no one has mentioned this.

I eat healthy as I can without compromising taste... in the UK we don't pay to get well if we get sick..in that we don't pay money for treatment. Not that I'm for one minute advising that people eat unhealthily because of that.. but there is a difference here...and in fact the UK is the Fat man of Europe..and Diabetes is rife.. perhaps if people did have to pay out of pocket it might not be so endemic

Edwards Chocolate Creme Pie ... I don't want to see the price ... just take my money 😭
And they only put four tiny servings in each whole 25.5 oz 9 inch pie for pete sake

Have you stopped buying certain foods because the price has risen to where you feel it's unaffordable to you..or just not worthy of the increase.?

There's quite a few rises in foods here which frankly are not worth it.. and one of those is the once Humble British Fish and Chips,... take -away...

Our nearest Take-away ( it's not a restaurant, there's no eating in)... is now charging £12..00 for a small piece of cod, and chip..(fries)... unbelievable price...
A couple questions.
What were you used to paying for fish and chips?

And...

Is pizza a popular Take-away in Britain and where you live there?

I’ve always been a careful shopper. Now I just hold my breath and pay. It is almost always on sale, even if I consider the sale prices a joke. We haven’t been able to travel except for a few days so there’s no point saving for something special.

Based on the lineups I see at the FF places, prices aren’t an issue.

I guess living alone has its advantages. I haven't given up anything. Fruits and vegetables are in their prime growing season around here right now, so I load up on fresh fruits like peaches, raspberries, cherries and plums and vegetables like sweet corn, beets, tomatoes, fresh potatoes, etc. I seldom eat red meat, only once per week, but fish I eat 3-4 times per week and that has risen sharply, but I still buy the northern fresh cod out of the fresh case, bring it home and broil it the same night. No pizzas or any processed foods. Those are the enemy of good health.

Candy bars, a guilty pleasure that cost five cents when I was a boy, and now sell for close to a dollar (or more), plus they’re smaller than they used to be, even at the much higher price! I still allow the occasional indulgence, but much less frequently and with much more guilt…

I have seen the price rise in a lot of the products I regularly buy. I have not stopped buying them though. Instead I have stopped spending on other things, extras that I don't really need but want. I rarely buy meals out so that is not a problem. I saw my grocery budget go down a lot when I started following keto and even though I buy mostly meat and eggs it is still within my budget.

I haven't stopped buying my standard foods but will admit to grumbling my way thru the grocery store.

I'm about at my limit with my favorite milk substitute though, its now $8.50 a quart, thats starting to sting.View attachment 299839
This would be one of the things I would not buy. My husband drinks almond milk as he can't drink regular. He only likes Walmart brand which is fine since it's $2.44 a half gallon.
I'm still buying pasture raised eggs but that will go if necessary.
Yeah, $8.50 a quart would sting but it sounds delish!

I just bought some Grain Berry cereal on sale for $5.99. I rarely eat cereal but sometimes I get a hankering.

Used to buy steak and have it often. Find it hard to find the cuts I like. I've basically given up eating; I barely have an appetite any more. Why couldn't that have happened sooner?

That's a good point. I could never eat like I did twenty years ago. I would be sick.

I agree to some extent, but not that "healthy" foods are necessarily more expensive than "unhealthy" ones. It's a case of understanding fresh produce and how to prepare it in a healthy way - not just buying an expensive meal because it must be 'healthier'.

I will not eat at my localfast food joint anymore. $12.00+ for a whopper, large fries, large diet Coke. My Burgerking has the most expensive menu around.
A few weeks ago I went into Burger King.. hadn't been there for a few years....had had the occasional Cheeseburger from McD's which cost 99p.... Burger king charged me £8.50 for a cheeseburger and a small bottle of water...
