Dollar Tree carts with pole attached and senior citizens

One of our stores here(we have 2) the one close to our home has shopping carts with poles attached so you can't take them out the door to your car, what are the elderly and disabled supposed to do if they can't carry their bags and have walking issues.I have tried emailing and calling corporate to no avail. It is simply profit over people. They are trying to save money by not paying a person to get the carts in their lots but they are keeping us out thus losing profits so what have they gained? I see people struggling to get in their stores and struggling to carry their bags back out using canes etc. We cannot go there and won't go there but it is not right in my opinion.

They also need to change the name of their store it is no longer the Dollar Tree it is 1.25¢ store

Well they need to have Cart parking like this.. where we put a coin in to release a trolley.. and get our money returned when we return it to the Corral after loading our shopping into our vehicles

I wish all stores would do this. Now, in the US, it's only Aldi.

I understand the concept but elderly and disabled still would have problems getting in the store and taking it back if they needed a cart to hold on too understand???

Sounds like an opportunity for some homeless person to make some pocket money to me. Thats what happens here in Toronto. Here is something to think about...,Each one of those shopping carts costs around $750 to buy. The store has every right to protect against the loss, and or theft of their property. You see it as being a problem , they see it as cost control measure. If it really irks you that much, shop elsewhere. JimB.

I hate to agree but I must. Too many carts are left in parking spots for others to take back for them.

I do shop elsewhere but they are losing a lot more in profits by keeping the elderly and disabled out. I guess I care more about people than I would profits. Are you able to walk in or carry your bags to your car, if you can I am very happy for you ! There are many of us that can't unaided by a cart that is left in the parking lot or asking someone going in to please get us a cart.

this is one of the reasons that coin operated trolleys became so popular in the Uk. To prevent trolleys being left all over the car park and danger to drivers... and in some parts of the country trolleys were stolen from the supermarkets to use by 'joyriders'' who would dump them in roads, rivers, parks and fields costing fortunes in clean up for the local councils .. so all that came to an end after the introduction of coin release trolleys.. many years ago now...

That all still goes on here.

The supermarket near me started with the coin operated cart racks. I asked why. Well, the township was tired of dragging shopping carts out of drainage ditches, off the middle of highways, off the sides of roads, off lawns, and being a total headache. Any more wayward carts-big fines.
exactly as I said above..as to the reason why it was implemented here in the UK

I always help people with their groceries and their carts. I understand your dilemma.
I wish the stores understood that they also lose profits from all age people switching to Aldi's, partly because of their cart policy.

Aldis uses the coin operated rack method. It's quite effective, and on rare occasion, you might get a cart where someone forgot to take the quarter, but when you return the cart, you get the quarter. That quarter goes into my profit column, but I don't declare it on my tax form.

This is an example of the trolley Corrals dotted all around the Car park....there's one every few feet...

What keeps people from stealing them out of the corrals like that? If you have to pay a quarter to get a cart who do you pay to get your quarter back? I guess my question is if the purpose is to pay to get a cart to get you to bring it back to the store or corrals and people don't bring it back to store what is purpose of paying the quarter, people can still steal them.
Oh I love that y'all call them trolleys, over here they are carts or buggies, a trolley over here is something you catch on a street corner downtown to tour the town.

Your a very nice person and I thank you for helping others. I do understand profit and loss I just find it odd they are losing a ton of money by keeping us out too but I guess that is their money.

your coin goes into a slot in the trolley handle which releases the trolley. To get your coin back you insert the trolley back into the corral, where a small chain link device is inserted which pushes your coin back out, but locks the trolley into the Corral

Remember when a nice young grocery bagger would take the groceries out to the car for you?
I think some of the nicer grocery stores still do. Maybe Publix or Harris Teeter?
