This story broke my heart. I meant to post it much sooner but waiting revealed more details. The little one year old boy who died was adorable (he's pictured in the article). I bet he was the sweetest thing. I feel so sorry for his parents. I feel for the parents of the other children as well.
“My heart is broken,” Dominici’s father Otoniel Feliz told the New York Daily News. “I have no words to express how I’m feeling now. Nobody expects to send your kids to a safe place … and next you have a phone call saying ‘Your child has died.’ Every time I return home, he’s waiting for me at the door. It’s hard to come home yesterday and don’t see him over there.”

The other three children, who were unresponsive, were given naloxone and hospitalized. Fentanyl was found on the mats where they napped! Later they found it in a hidden spot under where the children were kept.
~The owner's husband grabbed his bag and ran before he could be arrested. Days later he was found in Mexico
~The owner had removed her own child from the daycare center, which IMO makes her lawyer's argument that she didn't know what was going on (blame it on the tenant) null and void.
~Fentanyl was found in other areas of the daycare.
~She, her tenant who was arrested with her and her husband are now charged with murder.

I hope they go to jail for the rest of their lives.

This is more from that atrocious story... It seems this ''Daycare'' was run from a private home in the Bronx..only opend in January and a neighbour said that it was obvious it was being used as a drug front

Police investigating a New York City daycare where a one-year-old boy died of alleged fentanyl exposure have discovered additional fentanyl hidden in a space underneath the center’s floor.

Following a tip about a trapdoor in the floor, authorities on Wednesday night and Thursday searched the Divino Niño daycare center in the Bronx again after fentanyl residue was found underneath a mat earlier this month where children had napped, ABC reports.

Police subsequently found a large quantity of fentanyl, other narcotics and various drug paraphernalia hidden underneath the floorboards, according to photos released online by the NYPD.

In an earlier search, investigators discovered a kilogram of fentanyl that was kept on top of play mats, in addition to scales and kilo presses used for compressing the deadly synthetic opioid.

On Saturday, the 36-year-old daycare owner Grei Mendez was jailed on a count of depraved indifference murder in addition to drug charges after one-year-old Nicholas Dominici died from apparent fentanyl poisoning. Three other children including an eight-month-old girl and two two-year-old boys were hospitalized after appearing to have been exposed to the drug.

Investigators have also charged Carlisto Acevedo Brito, a 41-year-old man who rented a room from Mendez, with federal narcotics conspiracy charges.

On Thursday, a grand jury returned an indictment charging Mendez and Brito in connection with Dominici’s death as well as the additional poisonings of the other children, ABC 7 reports.

Following Dominici’s death, the mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, said: “This crisis is real, and it is a real wake‑up call for individuals who have opioids or fentanyl in their homes … The mere contact is deadly for an adult and it’s extremely deadly for a child.”

The owner, Grei Mendez, took steps to cover up her involvement in a sprawling drug operation, even as medics rushed to treat several children in her care who were poisoned by the opioid, federal prosecutors said. The daycare owner and a man who rented a room from her, Carlisto Acevedo Brito, were hit with new federal narcotics conspiracy charges. They were previously charged in state court with murder of "depraved indifference" in the death of one-year-old Nicholas Dominici.

I don't know about the zoning on that. But the daycare center passed recent inspection?

If one looks at some pictures it's an extremely tight space which means the littlest of fentanyl residue could be an issue especially with poor ventilation.
the picture above that I posted, is the amount of fentanyl the police found under the floor... a load of it was also found in a hallway cupboard

The owner of the house denied knowing the man she said was responsible for the drugs nd who she rented a room to for £200 per week.. yet it's been reported he is her Brother-in-law..

her husband was also photographed running out of the back door carrying 2 large bags as police arrived

What a horrible looking place to have a day care..

Mendez opened the Morris Avenue day care in May. The day care has a capacity of eight children between the ages of six weeks to 12 years old, records show.

The facility passed an unannounced annual inspection on September 6.

But NYPD found nearly a kilo of fentanyl inside an apartment that the day care also used, as well as a kilo press - a device typically used to combine fentanyl with either cocaine or heroin.

Mendez and Acevedo Brito, who The New York Post reported had recently arrived from the Dominican Republic, both face 28 counts including murder, drug possession, assault, manslaughter, and child endangerment.

The distraught father of the dead child, Otoniel Feliz, 32, told DailyMail.com that he and his wife were recommended to use the day care center.

'We had a good recommendation. We were told it was a great place. It looked like a nice place,' he told DailyMail.com on Friday.

The tearful father-of-five, who moved to the United States in 2018 from the Dominican Republic, said his child had just started at the child care center.

'It was his first week,' he said. 'This was his first week.'

The husband of the owner of a New York City nursery where a child died of suspected fentanyl poisoning has been charged with the death, officials say.
Felix Herrera Garcia was on the run after he was caught on camera fleeing the Bronx nursery with large bags.
He is the fourth person to be charged following the death of one-year-old Nicholas Dominici this month.
Police found a large quantity of fentanyl and other drugs under a trapdoor at the nursery.
The US Drug Enforcement Administration and Mexican officials arrested Mr Herrera Garcia on Tuesday on a bus in Sinaloa, Mexico.
US Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement that the latest arrest "reflects our tireless pursuit of Herrera, who fled the daycare even as the children he abandoned inside were suffering from his poisonous trade".
He has been charged with conspiracy to distribute narcotics resulting in death.

Death Penalty
New York State does NOT have the death penalty, since 2004. JimB.

The "M" is a brand name given by the drug gang, to identify their product. Its not hard to do using pill compactor equipment. JImB.
The pills have an “M” on one side and a “30” on the other side. In the drug world, they are known as an “M30.” Sometimes they are totally white and may contain no dugs. Others pills are loaded with Hydrocodone and will kill an elephant. We also take lots of pictures.

There were 3 Troopers and 4 DEA’s that took possession of over 3500 pills during my last bust before retirement. We keep about 25 of them for evidence and then destroyed the balance. If you ever get your hands on just one, crush it and then wet you your little finger, touch it to the powder and taste it. It should have no taste, but if it’s the real deal, you should get tired in a hurry. Don’t taste anymore than just a pinch.

How much do the cartels get for the fentanyl? I had been told that the Mexicans pay about 30-50 cents per laced fentanyl and were charging about about $25 per pill. Are you able to confirm this?

@jimintoronto , you said NY hasn't had the death penalty since 2004.
That's too bad in this case IMO.
I don't believe in the death penalty. To me it's an "easy out". I prefer the idea of people who commit heinous crimes be made to suffer for the rest of their lives, especially if they get jailhouse justice on the regular. Obviously not applicable in this case but another reason I don't believe in it is because people have been exonerated and released decades later for violent crimes DNA evidence has found that they did not commit.

I would not disagree with you Diva, but it was my first reaction in this case. When it involves children it's difficult to fathom how heinous people can be.

As if physical child abuse issues aren't enough to see people hide behind or use children for cover is disgusting and says something about the individuals involved. Child abuse isn't just physical. But there are people that do this. Not only are they trying to stave off law enforcement but I think some do it to show some friends, colleagues etc that they are 'good people'. They're using children for their self esteem.

But this wound up being physical child abuse. During the fatal incident the women in charge discusses calling 911 because their drug operation had priority not human/a child's life.

These people exist, this is sadly not isolated.

I understand, believe me! I'm very sensitive when it comes to children being harmed.

@WhatInThe You said: "These people exist, this is sadly not isolated." Unfortunately you are so right! I read news stories of horrendous child abuse, even in European countries, on an app called Smart News. Believe me, I don't post 99.9% of what I find there...it's just too horrible, angering and depressing! They have other news in several categories, but too many of the terrible stories seem to pop up first.

Daycare in general is such a mess. We should have government controlled daycare with rules and regulations just as strict as our K-12 schools. That place looked like a hell-hole even without the drugs. Until then I'd stay home and raise my own kids.
