Another bully XL attack in London

I say muzzle these monsters or cull those refuse to control them. In fact ban them. This cannot go on. These dogs actively seek out people to bite, this is not normal dog behaviour, it is lethal and utterly unacceptable.

Take a look at the type of person who owns them?
One man in Birmingham, who owns three Bully XL dogs (why?) is organising a meeting of them! In the expectation that they will change minds and hearts. He says his three act like babies. I don't think so. Soon as blood lust is aroused, these things are hunter killers of people.

It's just a matter of time before a child is killed.

I agree with Rose that a few breeds should be forced to die off. They aren't like an endangered species. Man created these dogs by breeding in particularly vicious characteristics, so it's Man's mistake to correct. I wouldn't be for killing any dogs or taking a pet from a family, but simply requiring that they all be fixed, within ten years they would all be gone.

There are over 2-300 lovely breeds recognized by the kennel clubs and thousands of sweet mutts to choose from. Why pick one of the breeds known to frequently kill children? Why put your own family and your neighbors at risk?

Any breed can kill in unusual situations, but when certain breeds kill over and over, something is wrong that should be addressed. My present vet refuses to treat Pit bulls and Rottweilers because, in his words, "They're unpredictable." They can be sweetie pies right up until the day they aren't.

I was once sitting in the vet's office with my mini-dachshund on my lap, when a Rottweiler on a leash, held by his two owners, came through the door and lunged at us. In seconds I was against the wall holding my dog in front of me and the Rott was on my back with his two owners pulling on his leash. The vet rushed out and subdued him with a shot before we were hurt and the owners were all,"He's never done anything like that before..." As owners of such dogs always say.

According to Dogsbite.org: In the 15-year period of 2005 through 2019, canines killed 521 Americans. Pit bulls contributed to 66% (346) of these deaths. Combined, pit bulls and rottweilers contributed to 76% of the total recorded deaths.

I think big dogs, like pit bulls, rottweilers get a bad rap. Not that they are born killers, but that they have the ability to do real bodily damage. Not many people are mauled death by chihuahuas, but they can attack just as well as any big dog. My ex sister-in-law had three chihuahuas that used to bite ankles and hands all the time. It's the same thing with people, who own tigers and big cats. These are large powerful animals. If for any reason, they want to attack, they aren't concerned about burning in hell for eternity- they're damn big animals, and they can do real damage!

Children have already died... and most of these are attacks by dogs owned by people not in London but all around the country...

Chihuahuas bite more people than any other breed - thankfully. Better yet if no people were bit by dogs but if I were to get bit I’d be better off with one of these ineffectual killers.

I wouldn't be afraid of small dogs, you really cannot compare a chihuahua with a large powerful beast like a Bully XL. It's weight and powerful jaws that are the horror.

I see this dog all the time, never heard the name 'Bully XL' before. I think I would just have thought it was a pit bull.

Most home insurance policies explicitly exclude coverage for specific breeds. I know mine does.
Average dog related injury claim right now is costs insurance companies a shocking $44,760!

Our local public shelters are loaded with pit bull and PB mixes. Sad but unsurprising to see photo after photo of these abandoned dogs. Original owners can't handle them and very few are willing to take them on.

Sometimes these powerful dogs are beside the street thugs. They’re on a heavy chains and wearing similar paraphernalia. Both are indicating how tough they are. There was a block in downtown Toronto where no one was walking because of the the people and their dogs.

JMO, it‘s part of the status for some people who adopt a pet to say that it’s part Rottie - but he’s a real sweetie.

They say that dogs mirror their owners in a lot of cases and I believe that is true. Aggressive dogs probably have aggressive owners, but if something goes wrong, it's the dog's fault and not theirs. The dog is cover for the owner's attitude.

On the other hand, my neighbors across the street have two mild mannered pups much like their owners. The owners even do volunteer work so they apparently care about people.

I would say it is a certain type who keeps these Bully dog, it IS a status thing and therefore pathetic. How do these owners feel if their dog kills a child or anyone? Is thatwhat they want?

Dogs do reflect their owners in personality and even looks.

Rose you keep saying London... it wasn't London....it was very far away from London..in Sunderland...

Neighbours told how paramedics fought to save the life of the man, aged in his 50s, following the traumatic attack involving an XL Bully in Sunderland last night
Police have launched a murder probe after a man was killed by an "out of control" XL Bully in Sunderland.

Neighbours told how paramedics fought to save the life of the man, in his 50s, following the traumatic attack in Shiney Row at around 6.55pm yesterday. A woman found him on a field near Maple Terrace and shouted at the first police officer to arrive: "Please help me! His throat is hanging out."

Police have since arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of murder, while the dog was "destroyed at the scene to ensure the safety of the public". This morning, the force said in a statement: "A murder investigation has been launched after a man was fatally injured by an XL bully type dog.

"Shortly before 6.55pm on Tuesday (October 3) police received a report that a dog had injured a man outside of an address on Maple Terrace in Shiney Row, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. Emergency services attended the scene and the man, aged 54, was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

"Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he sadly passed away last night. The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers. We ask their privacy is respected at this difficult time."

Yes, sorry, my mistake.

I am a devout dog lover. Always have been. I grew up in a house with dogs. Dogs are the most brilliantest things ever. And that's a whole new word I made up!!

That said, some dogs are not so brilliant. Or are they? I put 99% of the problem on the owner. There is no excuse for not having your dog under control when outside. None. But, we get selfish types who think it's unfair not to allow their dog to freely run about, and damn the consequences, apparently. If you want to have a dog that can run about freely, move somewhere where you're not near others. Why would this need explaining?

I walk my dog a minimum of twice a day. He's never off the leash because there are lots of other dogs around here. The end. Simple. I'd be mortified if my dog actually attacked someone.

The problem here is several fold: Some breeds exist solely because of the ability to act as guard dogs, some of these are just violent by nature. Along with this, there is a wanton lack of regulation around breeding dogs in the UK. In many cases, an individual has bought one of these dogs purely to breed them. It can be lucrative, they cost between £1500 and £2000 for a puppy. Trouble is, the breeding is done without due care, and under the radar. It's disgraceful and should be banned without a license.

I have discussed this elsewhere previously, and it's a case of the law being an ass. You actually get down to genetics. Like, it's only 98% Bully XL, so it's not an actual Bully XL. This makes banning a breed somewhat mute. I dislike laws that can't be enforced, and I wonder how such a ban would. The best would be to hold the owner responsible. If someones dog kills another person, make it murder - the owner knew the risk.

That said - what's up with the sudden increase in reports? Is it just that these cases were under reported? Or is this a new thing?

I think immediate orders should be all Bully XL dogs to be on a lead and muzzled when outside their own homes. The public must be protected. Anyone not complying to be arrested and their ownership assessed.
Any owners who refuse should have the dogs taken away and put to sleep.

I don't say this lightly, people have died horrifically or been injured. It cannot go on. This is a very dangerous breed which must only be in the hands of the most responsible of owners.

..another attack , and this time it WAS in London.. A visiting businessman and his wife and baby just left their 4 star hotel, as a Man with an out of control XL Bully attacked the child.. clamping it's jaws on the baby's thigh.. at one stage it looked like the childs' leg might have to amputated.. but fortunately it wasn't needed... but the family are in serious shock after the mother fought like a tiger to save her baby...
