Do you have/want/don't want a dishwasher?

I spent the first 52 years of my life without a dishwasher. Now that I have one, I seldom use it because it's just me and my husband and it takes a long time to fill it up. I keep putting things in the dishwasher then taking them out and washing them by hand because I tend to use the same things over and over every day.

I don't have a dishwasher in this house...I do have one at the Spanish house... I don't have space for one here ..it was either a dishwasher or a tumble dryer..I chose the latter..

My Daughter OTOH wouldn't dream of never having a dishwasher... she's always had one in every home she's owned

My mother got one, by time I was maybe eight or ten. I've never had one. As my wife sees it, the arrangement we have is she does 90% of the grocery shopping (in town, 50-minutes drive away) so that's why I do the dishwashing.

But the situation is it's expensive and we'd wait quite a while to have a technician come here where we live to repair a washer, drier, water heater, or stove. So I customarily do the maintenance & repairs, and I wouldn't want another piece of "convenience" machinery in the house!

I’ve had 4 dishwashers over the last 30 years or so. The first one had to be pushed across the kitchen and hooked up to the faucets. It did a good job until it caught on fire. #2 didn’t do as good a job washing, it was just ok. # 3 was just ok too.

Now that I don't really need one I have the luxury model. It has 3 racks plus the usual silverware buckets and is advertised as being silent and it nearly is. Once in awhile there is a quiet click but none of the rumbling, bumping, racket that normally goes with a dishwasher. I love this dishwasher. 😍

Ever since getting out of the Navy all our homes have had dishwashers. I've had to replace a few which wasn't fun connecting the plumbing & drain line. Thankfully the wiring was hot wired but had plug into wall receptacle.
While visiting my one son I happened to rinse off some plates to place in their dishwasher. I took a chance at not offending our DIL by explaining to her that rinsing food off everything going into her dishwasher was needed. I opened their dishwasher that had chunks of food stuck to the wall & drain to show my son & DIL that the dishwasher wasn't a food disposal appliance.

I've had a dishwasher all my life UNTIL I moved into this little apartment this year. I'm below my renters during the Rental season. Now my renters have a nice new Bosch Dishwasher and I, being spoiled and stubborn, have nothing but self-disciplinary issues now about washing and drying each time I use anything. I cook for 3 because my dogs eat homemade meals but different than what I eat.

It has taken me months to adjust...finally...I got this!...and NOW I'm moving back upstairs for the Off-Rental-season.
That's really going to set me back 😊 Sometimes you don't realize a blessing until it's gone 🙏

Wouldn’t be without it. It’s 18 now so fear the day it needs to be replaced. Too many negative reviews about various brands now.

We don’t rinse dishes, just make sure that everything if off them.

Not that it takes long, DH unloads to one side and I do to the other; it’s just a strange habit we’ve developed. We run it at least every other day.

We've had a dishwasher for many years, wouldn't want to do without one. We've recently bought a new Bosch dishwasher - does a really good job. I has a lot of unnecessary junk like internet connection. For goodness sake, it's a dishwasher, not a ******* computer.
i think all the appliances are starting to come with that crap. i don't need a smart fridge. just one that works. lol!

Never had a dishwasher growing up, but I did after I got married. We used it all the time when we were working. After retirement, I didn't use it as much, just for holidays & parties.

Now I'm back to using it again. If it ever went out, I'd get another one.

Yeah, my lady can't seem to accumulate enough dishes to use ours, as what dirty dishes we have get washed before I can even put 'em in the sink.
I think she uses it for big meals like thanksgiving.....don't know.
I'm not let in the kitchen much unless a jar needs the lid twisted off

I have a wonderful new dishwasher since I moved to Maryland. The water pressure here is real good and the hot water is really hot and it works beautifully no matter how dried-on messy the dishes are. But back in Nebraska I had a pitiful dishwasher that didn't clean well, so I would hand-wash all the dishes then put them in the dishwasher and run it (because the hot sanitizing part of the cycle seemed like a good thing to me).
