What's your thermostat set at?

If you live in a place that gets cold during the winter, I'm curious what do you set your thermostat on to keep warm. If you have a fireplace, that's a nice bonus.

My thermostat is set at 69*. This is a 1900 square foot tri-level house so a lot of space to heat. The furnace is only a couple years old, thank God, and when it does run it's only on for around 7 minutes at a time (I timed it).

We replaced every window in this house last year because the old windows were drafty and didn't close completely in some rooms. It's been an energy-saver, I'm sure.

My heat is included in my condo fees because we have a central system. It’s cheap to operate because it’s water based. I used to be hot all the time so kept it at 68. Fast forward to losing 50lbs and I am cold.

What’s weird is that after 5pm I progressively get colder as the night progresses. So my heat starts at 70 and by 8pm I have it on 78 despite winter pjs and a thick robe.

All my blood work is good and my doctor is stumped as to why this happens. I turn it down to 74 when going to bed. In the middle of the night I wake up hot and put it on 70.

22°C at the moment. (= 71 to 72°F)

18°C to 21°C (64°F to 70°F) seems to be what is generally recommended in the UK to be reasonably comfortable in a home. I even set the temperature in my car to 22°C.

Our National Health Service recommends 18°C (65°F) as a minimum.

Here it was 24F outside at 5AM. Now at almost 11AM it has warmed up to 28F. I generally leave my thermostat set at 70, sometimes bumping it up a degree or two in the evening and putting it back to 70 before going to bed. I do have a fireplace but only use it when the power goes out preferring to save the firewood for such an emergency. On several occasions I have found myself snowed in with no power for days at a time, with nighttime temperatures dipping into the single digits, or sometimes even the negative teens or 20s. Then it's a campstove for cooking and the fireplace for heat, a real frosty, mountain living, survival adventure.

Between 20C - 22C .. daughter was complaining it was cold when she was over recently. I guess we're acclimatized to our settings.

Our heat is off all the time. I turn it on to 73 when I get up at 6:30,really just to heat the bathrooms while we shower. We would die if we left the heat on at night-never have done that. I still get too warm anyway. Hubby`s head gets cold cuz he`s bald,so he wears a knit beanie in the winter. I tell him I feel like I`m sleeping with a longshoreman lol.

Our house is incredibly well insulated-we rarely use the air conditioning in the summer either. If we are home.we are usually in our den and run our electric "fireplace" in the winter. Our house is all electric. In California,we always had electric AND gas (propane). Our electric ran about $500.00 in winter and propane another $150.00. Here in Idaho,we pay about $200.00 a month for our electricity. Huge savings.

Oh,and we are always warm.In California we weren`t because we were always trying to keep the heating bill down.

I've begun to think of it as more of a time, so it's about "Cold 30" right now.

I set it for 67 F but if we get a warm day I'm as likely to shut it off to shave a little off the bills.

Don't know
I turn it up until we're warm
Bedtime, I turn it waaaay down, and open the bedroom windows
Good blankets
Fresh air

Up at the cabin, I'd toss on another log
Close the earth stove door
Damp it to low
Open the bedroom window and snuggle in

I do miss that
