The People Downstairs Let The Toilet Run.

They are not hard of hearing. How do they not hear this. It can run constantly or every 15 seconds for hours sometimes. This is the nut who screams at that woman. I had a toilet that could get the chain stuck under the flapper sometimes. So I always made sure it stopped. Simple critical thinking. They don't seem to have it.

A lot of people do not realize what causes this. Our downstairs toilet does this and when company uses it, the flapper does not seat and it runs. A quick flip on the handle fixes it. A new assembly is needed.

A running toilet can be such a problem. They’re so inconsiderate , and at my age, I scarcely care to pursue them. They slosh water on the run, and you can slip on it. Some, I believe, are demon-possessed porcelain…🙀

Seriously, though, I’ve taught myself the fundamentals of toilet repair, and have even learned unclogging techniques due to a housemate whose poop rivals the size of an elephant’s. When desperate, I’ve even got a plumber’s snake, although deploying one is a sh*tty business. All that I know I’ve learned at the feet of sages on Utube in order to avoid exorbitant and frequent plumber’s fees…

(Toilet on the Run, not to be confused with the much superior song, Fox On The Run…).

a new flapper cost well under $10 and can be installed in no time.

If the landlord/owner pays for the water bill, he’ll want to know.
I agree with this advice. In my building the HOA replaced all the toilet flushing mechanisms in all the condos, at the organization's expense (even tho each condo owner is supposed to be responsible for their own maintenance expenses) because the water bill was excessive.

Squeal on them. Wasting water!
It makes me so mad. Yet they release water out of the spillway at the reservoir. I'm such a water miser. But I'm kind of scared of these people. I don't know if management would care. Not sure if they have a set rate for water or if they pay by the unit.

Just call and say you can hear water running constantly and think you know where it’s happening.
I know it's downstairs. I've considered it. But more just want out of here but that is not working. But if they leave the apartment and keep it running again, I may have to.

It’s the same in Canada. Most, if not, many, places you rent, the utilities are included. If there’s something wrong with the rented apartment/ house , then that’s usually taken care of by the person who is renting the space; usually the owner.
Water was always included in rental apartments. But a few years ago, they added a water surcharge to the rent.

In the U.S. there exist landlords who pay for the water bills? Wow.
Yeah, used to be common that you'd only pay electric/gas/internet but that's rapidly disappearing. Last time I moved, I looked at some newer apartments in my price range. All water/trash/sewer was through third party companies that had a lot of complaints. Went with an older but comfortable and quiet family run place instead. Haven't looked back (yet!)

What does water surcharge mean? A deposit necessary for some reason or other.
It's money added in addition to your rent. The last owners, who were local, added that charge. However, they didn't raise the rent every year like these investors are doing. It's getting scary.

Perhaps a damage deposit. That’s nice that they didn’t raise the rent. They probably could’ve.

I was in a taxi yesterday. I was chatting to the driver, and he was seriously lamenting that he'd often ask his passengers if an address was "left or right" from the current position. He swore 90% of young folk weren't able to tell their left from right, and instead used hand signals. :D

Yeah, they were decent. Since we were in a voluntary evacuation here due to fire a few years ago, I wonder if they decided to sell, take the money and run. I don't think they were young. These apartments are close to the foothills and that night I could see red glow from my door. There are houses that were closer. They didn't burn.

I may be a little confused as I don't live in an apartment. Are you saying that in your apartment, you can hear a toilet running on the floor below yours?

Yes I can. But apparently the people in the apartment don't hear it. If it's running constantly or intermittent. Until they go into the bathroom I guess.
