Sexsmith his real name @MarkD
First thing that came to mind, though it could be way wrong: someone who's occupation is crafting sextants for navigation.Interesting. I wonder what the derivation of that would be.
The sextant is a well-known measuring instrument based on a 60* angle (one sixth of a 360-degree circle). Developed in the early 18th century. Could an English name have started then?errrm... that Sexsmith guy never heard of him before... he seems a bit strange...![]()

Since I retired I've been recording my version of songs from all genres. This one is a C&W Waylon Jennings' tune. I'm certainly no professional, but I thought I'd give it a shot. Hope I'm not being too indulgent. If the response is poor I won't post any more of my stuff.Couldn't find a folk and country thread so as it's my very favourite genre I thought I'd start one.
Please feel free to move it SB if there is already one running!!
Let's kick off with a modern one which always makes me smile...
Fabulous... I'm a big Waylon fan... and you did that song justice.... please feel free to post your songs here...Since I retired I've been recording my version of songs from all genres. Thanks! You made my night! I love "Abilene", "Crying" and "Don't Think Twice It's Alright". Jennings does great "covers" of songs by other artists. I also like "Women Do Know How To Carry On". I thought it was a negative song initially, but then I realized he was actually praising women. He was being interviewed once and was asked if being signed by Chet Atkins was a case of nepotism. He said, "well I guess I'll have to call my friend Kris Kristofferson up and ask him what that there word nepotism means." Kristofferson was a Rhodes scholar who turned down an offer to teach literature at West Point so he could pursue a career in country music!Fabulous... yes I'm a big country music fan..so I knew that about KK...altho' I have to admit I'm not a fan of either him, Connie Smith or Tanya Tucker...... do you ever do any of Waylon's early stuff, like Mental Revenge... ?Thanks!
