These days I take that as a serious compliment. For decades I searched for a kindred artist that painted like I do but never found found one. I was hoping to find proof that my art was acceptable. So for many decades I was uncertain if I had any talent or not. But now I don't care.

I find that painting, more so than drawing, that certain sub/un-conscious feelings come out onto the canvas, and when I spot them I would think "were did that come from?" Sigmund Freud would have a field day with me.

I get too heady when chasing outcomes. I end up doing what "I think others expect" and my heart gets censored.

I have two unfinished paintings which I started before I retired. I think now is a good time to restart them. And as @Warrigal said; paint more from the heart. I will do this first and forget about chasing. Perhaps after I am running out of storage space will I consider the gallery again.

I thought the term colorist just referred to those of us who work in coloring books. I'm an artist, of sorts too and like you, I mostly did my artwork during a particular time in my life and haven't gotten back to it. At some point, I'll start a thread about my few charcoal drawings. I took an art class and tried my hand at oils, but did not like the smell of turpentine during the clean up. I also tried acrylics (my tubes of paint are still viable after decades) but, of course can't move them around like oils.

During my first oil painting I used pure gum turpentine (with a unique eucalyptus odour). I had so much fun painting, the smell of pure gum turpentine now means fun.
Oils takes time to set, giving one time to get the application right. Acrylics can also be delayed by using an acrylic retarder medium. Also, there are water-based oil paints (no turpentine needed).

Well done! Yes, a colorist painter you are and such a contrast to your gray-scale art in your youth when you were abused. I see so much healing in your heart, mind, and soul since that time in your life.

John 19:28-30 was a deeply moving soul-stirring moment. I'm intrigued by your painting. I'd be interested in what you were feeling and expressing when you painted it. As I look at it, I'm seeing a unique perspective.

I can only echo what others have said, @reteP ... your work is vibrant and amazing... and I sincerely hope to hear that you've picked it up again in the near future. Crucifixion is a stunner, and probably my favorite if I'd have to choose one.
