Do you attend car boot sales?

I only go when there is something I specifically want.
Sunday saw me attend, wanting hedge clippers.
When I arrived, the very first stall had want I wanted. $5.
Paid and was away inside 2 minutes. My shortest visit so far.

i have't been to a Boot sale in about 10 years... I found with the last couple that I went to people were just selling Tat ... most people now sell on FB marketplace or Ebay, or neighbourhood app....

I did think I might hold a boot sale myself because I've got a ton of stuff that need to go, but it;s all good stuff.... so I don't want to just give it away.. I've always had someone do a boot sale with me.. but now I don't have anyone ..and holding a boot sale by yourself.. is very hard , you have to have eyes in the back of your head.. plus you can't leave the stall to go to the loo

this is the local--ish one where I used to always sell...

Around here each month they have what is called "junk in the trunk" which I think is what you call a "car boot sale". I go when the weather is not too hot, but most vendors are what I would call fulltime flea market sellers or crafters. Not many are people just trying to get rid of their junk.

I had to look up tat, not something I have ever heard.
Maybe we are more civil here in Perth. No real need to be beady eyed, from what I can gather, having sold at these sales myself in the past, theft is not an issue.
The only issue is warding off those cheapskates who will try and knock down the price of a $2 trinket to 50 cents. I told those people to go away. :giggle:

Well we have all the cheapskates of course.. we also have all the traders who descend on you the second you open up the car boot..hoping to disorient you enough to let them have stuff cheaper, and then they sell it on their own stalls.

Thieves are a massive problem.it's ridiculous even if you're selling something for pennies they'd rather steal it..

there's also a certain demographic that drives almost all Boot seller up the wall.. I won't mention the race.. but you could be selling a Brand new TV.. for example, for 50 pence.. and they'd want it for 10 pence...

No boot sales in this neck of the woods.

Before Covid I used to hit the garage sales, flea markets and thrift shops in the area.

I found many bargains and many, many, things that I never knew I needed. 😉🤭😂

Now I buy what I need when I need it.

It has amazed me how much cheaper it has been for me to pay full price and stop bargain hunting.

It has also been amazing to me how much I can get along without if I take a breath and think about my options.

Always carry a can of this in the glove box.

We have that go on here. Mostly Chinese doing that. Buy as cheap as possible, then resell it.
I remember one Chinese lady badgering me, I told her I am trying to make a living here so go away. I am not selling you anything.

Speaking of boots......I stopped at a garage sale a few months ago and all the woman was selling was....boots. A whole garage full of heavily metal-studded platform boots you'd see on the rock group KISS. She said she was getting out of the mail order business and was selling off stock.

Problem was, as I walked up the driveway, I was hit by the overwhelming odor of many cats who must have been living in that garage for years, if not decades. My eyes were watering and I was about to gag.

After chatting for a hasty minute, I beat an equally hasty retreat. I could smell the stench all the way home.

No wonder she was "getting out of the business ". Can you imagine what those boots smelled like?

In my part of the world, they're called "flea markets". But much more modest in scale than the original one by that designation in Paris, which we've been to... and where the quality of some of the small antiques is very high. At ours over here I've gotten some good deals on power tools in great condition... half new price and less.

Here, the sellers tend to put items on a collapsible table or two. Holly, your pics could pass for a good one I went to in Scotland. I got some great music CDs there... and (though I didn't sample) I seem to remember more than one guy was selling deep-fried Mars bars!

We call 'em yard sales or garage sales and they are considerably larger than a car boot sale. Mainly one goes and if we see something we want we may dicker or just pay. I don't go any more but mainly bought books when I did go.

laughing at the deep fried Mars bars.. yep apparently they are quite the thing in Scotland now...:ROFLMAO:

We also have flea markets but they're not on the scale of Car Boots sales.....and very often they sell quite high end stuff, like antiques as you mentioned..

As a thrift shopper, I'd sure go. We call them 'flea markets' in the U.S.. Also there are sometimes outdoor antique sales. I've watched some YouTube videos people have attended. Hate seeing a cat figurine or something I would have bought. :D

Yuk. She sounds like a real mess. And I feel bad for those cats.

I usually work Saturdays but there have been a couple of weekday estate sales in my area I've come across. Nice clean homes. It's always nice to know the items come from a place like that though it's sad. I have no more room for furniture and no way to move furniture but the last one had some nice pieces.

larger than a car boot sale..?.. that would be something to see indeed... this is the typical size of a boot sale ...

Sorry I didn't explain that well. One goes to peoples houses yards or garages. A yard sale is larger than an individual car boot sale. DH and I no longer can go to yard sales but our son goes, so during the week as the sales are listed on Facebook I write them in a notebook, come Friday afternoon DH numbers them and I rewrite them for Saturday. Son uses the car to get to them. Sometimes they can be very far flung or if lucky only a few kilometers away from the others. Have to have a good map of the town and surrounding communities.

I noticed but never the less one car boot sale is small.I didn't realize that so many cars would be together, we here are accustomed to individual yard sales so of course we imagined a single car somewhere with stuff in the boot.
