A Short Story by Bretrick
What could have been.
Rufus Smalt looked at the dazzling ring in his hands and felt elation.
He had bought the ring with high expectations
He walked over to the window and reflected on his dense surroundings. He had always loved the Tasmania Wilderness with its incredible Rain Forest. It was a place that encouraged his tendency to feel Passion.
Then he saw her in the distance. It was the figure of Marion Mimim. Marion was his belle with pretty legs and lips as smooth as ivory.
Rufus gulped. He glanced at his own reflection. He was affable and gregarious, surely he had a chance with Marion?
But not even an affable person such as himself was prepared for what Marion had in store today.
The Snow flurried outside, making the setting a sensational vista.
As Rufus stepped outside and Marion came closer, he could see the coy smile on her face.
Marion swooned into his arms with all the grace of a Swan.
Rufus looked at her, even more besotted and still fingering the dazzling ring. “Marion, you have proven to me you have earned this ring”
They looked at each other with electrifying feelings, like two love struck teenagers.
Rufus studied Marion’s sparkling eyes.
Eventually, Marion took a deep breath. “I’m sorry,” she said in apologetic tones, “but I don’t feel this will work, it never could. I must marry my betrothed, even if the spark has already diminished. My Father is relying on this union.”
Rufus looked heart broken, his emotions raw.
Marion could almost hear Rufus’s emotions shatter as she hurried away into the snowy distance.
