That's a bit naughty, inducing the Americans to believe that any coastal road in Scotland could be remotely like Route 66!

All I would say is if your thinking about visiting don't. Think about it that is. Stop thinking and do it!

We'll make you very welcome.

Scotland is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL country in the world!

Route 66? Bad comparison. Driving around Scotland is almost never ending beauty.

Oh Dear! Another deeply rooted belief shattered!

Haha! :p They are very similar except there is no nice scenery in Detroit, or mountains, or lochs, although there is a big river, oldest buildings might be 100. Hmm..... Similarities: there are people and buildings.

Post #13... If you look at Picture 21, this is Gardenstown - a village just a few miles from where I live (It's a really weird place). Picture 23 is taken inside one of my favourite distilleries, "The Glenlivit".

Now as to the Bonnie bonnie banks.... this is not such a romantic song as you might imagine...
There are many theories about the meaning of the song, most of which are connected to the Jacobite uprising. One interpretation based on the lyrics is that the song is sung by the lover of a captured Jacobite set to be executed in London following a show trial. The heads of the executed rebels were then set upon pikes and exhibited in all of the towns between London and Edinburgh in a procession along the "high road" (the most important road), while the relatives of the rebels walked back along the "low road" (the ordinary road travelled by peasants and commoners).

Another interpretation of the 'Low Road' is that it refers to the traditional underground route taken by the 'fairies' or 'little people' who were reputed to transport the soul of a dead Scot who died in a foreign land - in this case, England - back to his homeland to rest in peace.[

No interest in visiting Europe.... and all my family is from Germany.... However Italy..... ah.... I'd travel to Italy in a heartbeat.. Start at the top of the boot and work my way down and around... eating everything and drinking all the wine..
