Oh yeah, despite some of the obvious fakeness, like the bobbing space ship with smoke coming out the exhaust, Flash Gordon was unique and fascinating. In fact they took a lot from those old series to use in the Star Wars saga. When I was a kid I was addicted to the old 1936 Flash Gordon serial with Buster Crabbe, Jean Rogers, and Charles B. Middleton, who played Emperor Ming the tyrannical ruler of Mongo. I still tune those in on youtube every once in a while.

Great show, with such iconic introductions and outtros by Hitchcock, all to the tune from Gounod's "Funeral March of a Marionette", with the tell tale bassoon riff.Yes, I just binged watched a few Alfred Hitchcock TV episodes yesterday. Plus I have quite a few old tv on Roku and my youtube list.
Didn't the space ship drip globs of flame out of it's rear thrust? It was like it couldn't have been going faster than 4 miles an hour. That used to bother me, even as a kid.Oh yeah, despite some of the obvious fakeness, like the bobbing space ship with smoke coming out the exhaust, Flash Gordon was unique and fascinating.
