Care to make any predictions for 2025?

I will point out that, a State DL is NOT a proof of American citizenship at all.
An EDL is proof. They are good for non-air travel.

Enhanced Drivers Licenses (EDLs) are state-issued enhanced drivers licenses that provide proof of identity and U.S. citizenship when crossing the U.S. border in a vehicle. They are issued in a secure process, and include technology that makes travel easier. EDLs are a low-cost, convenient option for entering the United States from Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean through a land or sea port of entry, in addition to serving as a permit to drive.

I've used mine for years, both entering and returning from Canada and Mexico.

I will point out that, a State DL is NOT a proof of American citizenship at all. A Canadian or Australian who has a US work VISA can get for example a Texas State driver's license, while living and working in Dallas, or Huston.

Proof of citizenship for an American is hard to prove , unless you are willing to pay for a US Passport book or Passport card. A US State birth certificate is a weak type of identification, as it has no photograph, no address, and no signature on it. All a B.C. does is state that some body was born on a certain date, in a certain place in the USA. JIM.
Huh?

My enhanced driver’s license will get me into and out of Canada without showing a passport or birth certificate.

If I’m born on a certain date, in a certain place in the United States, I am a US citizen.

I predict that Americans will be required to carry proof of citizenship.

I already have a state issued EDL, Enhanced Driver’s License, that should cover it.
Yep, at least in my state, I will have to get that enhanced driver license in 2025. It requires more "crap" than a passport, as a passport will not be sufficient. I need to start collecting stuff.

Many states are now permitting your DL to be kept on your cellphone. 12 states added this the other day. Almost everyone carries a cellphone. They probably allow state ID for those without a DL.
Thanks for the tip!

New York was recently added but my iPhone hasn’t been updated to accept it yet.

Your DL is issued by the American State where you reside, right ? Citizenship is a matter of the Federal Government issuing a document that identifies you as a citizen of your country. Try entering France, or Australia or China with a D.L. and see what happens. A birth certificate is as I said above, a weak form of identification because it cannot be tied to YOU as a person.

I’m not talking about entering a country other than Canada or proving my citizenship to anyone other than local immigration authorities, an enhanced driver’s license should do that.

Interestingly all I need to apply for a passport is my birth certificate and a drivers license, go figure.

Anyway, I’m done with this topic.

I predict in 2025:

A big swanky limo will pull up in front of my house, and a cigar smoking gold chain adorned gentleman will stride up to me, shake my hand and announce that I have won mega-millions in the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes.

Shortly following that, I will be whisked away in my private jet to an undisclosed tropical location where I will sip on a rum infused cocktail where I will be playing bongos on the beach in my underwear. All three of my groupies will be dancing on the beach and calling me the big Kahuna (Well, they are sand crabs, but it's the equivalent in crab language).

After my walk-off number, I will be shot out of a cannon, only to land in South Dakota where a carbide equipped chainsaw will be waiting for me, and I will proceed to carve Yosemite Sam on the face of Mt. Rushmore. (Cmon man, he's earned it).

After that, it's fishing on the high seas from my tripped out surfboard, while I play the sax (Fish love a good sax number)

The catch of the day (Chilean Sea Bass) will be dressed and prepared just in time for the dinner show featuring Ricky Martin salsa dancing with Miss Piggy (It's something you gotta see).

Alas I will arrive by jetpack to a treehouse overlooking my private secluded Alpine lake where I settle into my featherbed hammock. (mmmmm ......I hope the alarm clock doesn't go off and ruin all this).

I think 2025 may be the best year ever!

That statement was once accurate. However, the federally mandated "Real ID" is setup to be incorporated by the individual states through their respective Driver's Licensing Departments. While most of the states set up the systems, the nationwide requirement is May of this year. At which point, individuals without real ids are no longer allowed access to most federal facilities, such as government buildings and TSA points in airports.

As I stated in an earlier post, it is harder in my state, to get an Enhanced Driver's License with Real ID, than to get a passport.

I also won’t be surprised if the economy is purposely crashed so that billionaires can buy up single family homes as people lose them. Buying up homes for cash by corporations has already been happening and the wealthy want to create a permanent class of people that can only afford to rent. Greed knows no bounds.
