12F here. Looks like it'll be a sunny day. Most of the rest of the metro area got sNOw but none for us. Yay.

The clock with "dead" batteries is still ticking and still on time.

Spring is a mere 57 days away.

So far, I've spent my morning "online time" fighting with gifyu, my picture host site.

It won't let me log in. Some of the tries wouldn't even let me go to the site!!!! Grrrrrrr!!!!!!! 😡

My early morning walk at 7am temp was 3 degrees,no wind windchill was -6. I walked around the building one time watching the sun rising. When I got back in building was happy to see the papers were here/sitting on the front desk. {One of the maintenance guys does deliver the papers, hadn't arrived yet} I took my NYT{Tues&today's} my neighbor Bill's Bflo News {Tues&today's} he's in Fla returns Sat,I'm saving papers for him
My plan for today, do some laundry read NYT, my book may go out again for another short walk mid morning or in afternoon before snow returns

A frantic phone call from work this morning: "Help!" At work I am a general dogsbody, being in the industry of distribution all my working life, I can turn my hand to most tasks. This morning I spent an hour on a forklift truck loading pallets, then I covered in the office where I am still familiarising myself with email. Later one of the directors asked if I still held a licence to drive trucks. "Indeed I do," I told him. With that we were in his car and off to the truck showroom to collect his new, big boy's toy. That was fun, driving that back.

Whilst at the showroom, one of their staff asked if I would be interested in delivering new trailers to their customers. It would only be now and then on an ad-hoc basis. I told them that I need to think about it, explaining about my lady's health, they were most understanding.

Back home now and my wife's health continues to improve, so much so that she shared the household cleaning with me, something that needs to be done everyday. Now I am putting together this evening's meal of creamy prawns and pasta. but just like yesterday, coffee first.

I am going to have to rethink how I manage the next week. In the Willamette Valley we stay warmer than many of you but we have had freezing nights and I don't want to risk going over bridges when they could be slick. That means I can not start my day in the hot tube, pool, and gym as I usually do. I will go to the facility later this morning, which will cramp my time for getting to Campbell Center in time for lunch.

I do not like my daily routine being changed, but having to replace my car because of impatience and sliding on a bridge would be worse. For the next week, I will have to start my days later. :(

Today I wash dishes at Campbell Center. Last week only 49 people came to lunch and I assume it will be the same today because the weather is the same. The jigsaw puzzle in the lobby is a difficult one. :( I like a little challenge but not so much difficult. However, it is fun working on the puzzle with others.

Things actually went well so far. Had my car inspected and, amazingly, it passed. As long I was in town, I did some grocery shopping. They finally had diet cream soda in stock which I had not seen in a few weeks. Darn impulse buying though. Ended up spending over $70.

I made cabbage soup. Nothing fancy, just coleslaw mix wilted in some chicken broth and seasonings.

Went to gym for elliptical, rowing and exercise bike. Now waiting for pest control company to come -- there is a rattling in the dormer over my office and I'm worried it's a bird, or worse, a squirrel.

Will write and/or play piano on this cold day. In the afternoon, going with wife to library and then we are going to try making split pea soup.

I am so jealous as I wait for the roads to clear before I head for the gym and hot tub.

I think I must put the ingredients of split pea soup on my shopping list. I have eaten a lot of bean soup since our weather turned cold but forgot about split pea soup. My mouth is watering thinking about eating pea soup.

I'll let you know how it comes out. It's a good day for it at 21 Fahrenheit!

Vida, when I wAS A Small tot, my mother kept us full of
split pea soup, so much so that I grew sick of it....we got
the dried peas in the government giveaway maybe once
a month.....but you enjoy yours ok!!!

Hyper. Found cause. Glucose only 60. Drank box of Apple Juice, will feel better soon. Diabetes usually will tell you something is wrong. Test, don't guess.
Fascinating! I would have guessed it would work this way:
high glucose = hyper
low glucose = sluggish
I learn new things every day - this is my first lesson today and it's not quite 8 AM.

I remember the government commodity foods. That was before food stamps. It is still possible to get it at some food banks. The block of cheese never goes bad but remains edible for months. We got lentils or split peas. I forgot which I liked the best. Some of the canned meat was extremely good, but the canned meat packed in lard is disgusting!

DH & I quite like split pea soup. Between the fridge and pantry all ingredients are on hand, but it hadn't dawned on me yet this winter to make it. (We don't eat meat, so I make it without ham. Don't even miss it.)

Thanks for the inspiration, @Irishdude and @Vida May.

p.s. @Vida May, two of my dear friends live in Salem, OR, so I've been to the beautiful Willamette Valley several times. Lovely place.

Left: This weekend we are expecting the first rain since last April. Fires are still raging, and rain would douse them. But mud slides might be even worse. Because our winter rains originate in the Gulf of Alaska, they are cold and the temperature will dip into the 50's. Our local mountains will hopefully look white again. Right: I wish our Palm Trees were Date Palm Trees as they grow in the lower desert about 1 1/2 hours from us. I love dates.
