Another Do It Yourself Project

New DIY project that I should be finished with by the end of next week. I'm going to gather all the parts & pieces needed sometime this week.

The starting point will be replacement of the cold water shut off valve that feeds the hot water heater. New copper piping for both hot & cold feed & delivery sweated in with silver solder. New delivery lines. & finish with new 9 year warranted hot water heater. The hot water heater hasn't failed. It's about 14 years old & could fail at any time. I'd rather replace now while the other work is being done.

The pic is of the cold water shut off valve that is corroded & doesn't work.

That's a long time for a water heater. When mine went bad it leaked all over the basement floor and I was lucky to be home and catch it before I had a lake in the basement. They added a shutoff valve right at the water heater too, the half turn type. It's a good idea to periodically work your shut off valves in the house on and off so they don't freeze in place.

I bought water leak alarms afterwards on Amazon and placed them on the floor around the water heater just in case.

Had this same thing done last fall, except a cut-off valve was added. Then had an incident a few weeks ago when I was soooo thankful for that cut-off valve.
