Smooth or Crunchy Peanut Butter

Horrors. Opened a new jar of peanut butter and discovered I accidently purchased creamy instead of my usual crunchy.
This will not do. Luckily Im visiting the store Friday and can purchase some real peanut butter.

So whats your preference. Obviously mine is crunchy. I will be using that creamy for mouse bait. :D

It really depends on mood and application. I really want to like the 100% ground peanuts types but they just don't taste good and the separation problem can be a battle (oil on top, concrete below).

I'm a bit surprised that nobody has tried producing a product that is 100% peanuts, some salt, and stabilized with dairy butter instead of some hydrogenated bad seed oil. I might have to experiment on my own.

That's what I do. Buy fresh peanuts and cashews and make fresh peanut and cashew butter... If eat processed peanut butter my glucose goes into orbit. But if I make my own, it doesn't. There's and old saying "If Peanuts are the only ingredient, there will be no spike." (IE, no quick rise in blood sugar...)

When some people get the munchies, they choose chips of some kind. I like peanuts and cashews.

That must be why, when I try to give up sweets, my creamy Jif peanut butter gets hit so hard. It only has 3 grams of sugar (my limit when going "no" sugar) but that three grams in peanut butter is often from molasses and I've heard that's one of the worst sugars. It certainly is tasty. Molasses is what makes my oatmeal cookies so very delicious.:sneaky:

Spoken like a health minded Diabetic. The trick to managing diabetes is a mastering the balancing act. There is sugar in one or more forms in just about everything, and it's those other forms, the high fructose corn syrup, etc., that are exceptionally bad for you. I watch my carbs and rarely go over 40 per meal or 120 a day, and I do my best to watch the calories too, but you can't just do that. Specially if you a certifiable expert at watching carbs and calories go into your mouth. Hi!

Between Cindy (my late wife, who was studying to be a Physician's Assistant and a Chef before her health made her have to drop out of college) and our Nutritionist in Eureka, I learned how to read those Nutrition Facts labels pretty well. The bottom line is homemade peanut butter made with molasses instead of sugar is better for you.

Another key point is that you have to do research quite often. This lady I knew from my bike rides (I met her at a park I took breaks in) swore by Agave Nectar. She raved about it. However, by doing a little digging, I found out that many Nutritionists say that Agave Nectar is no better than plain old sugar. And it is so expensive I was really glad I didn't learn that the hard way. And after trying some from one of the sample people at Costco I was even more happy I didn't because I thought it tasted horrible.

So you keep putting molasses in your cookies, which I wish I could try one of...

Me like Cookies! Mmmm...
