Interesting.. tell me more..please...
It really goes back about 40 years, or even more. Once upon a time, it became imperative that the US dollar be strong. We like to think it is a symbol of U.S. strength, but in fact it is the very thing that is eroding the country, imo. A strong U.S. dollar made imports cheaper, which translated to off shoring.

Instead of the dollar reaching equilibrium which trading partner currency, those profits were kept in the USA, to purchase property, stocks, bonds etc., effectively keeping the dollar strong against these other currencies, by creating a false demand for dollarized assets.

Various other sources are saying price increases on generic and OTC drugs will be a penny to a penny and 1/2 per pill, on average.

(One of those sources is Grant Harding, licensed pharmacist in 3 states and drug pricing expert.)

Guess you'll just have to wait and see then.. and if they d increase significantly, you can come back here and visit this thread...

Hang on I've just re-read yor post Frank..1 penny and a half per PILL>..? so 200 pills pack could potentially cost 300 pennies more ?

What's a penny in the US ?..what's it's value ?

here of course it's value is exactly that One penny... and a half penny,,300 pennies extra would mean £3.00 increase

While perfectly fine and fair questions, it might not really matter in the long run, as Pres. Trump said a while back that he wants to quit minting pennies, LOL.

(I ought to have added that a penny is 1/100th of a dollar.)

same here ..100th of a pound........ so if it were to increase by the penny or penny halfpenny.. that would be $3 dollars on a pack pf 200 pills..good God....so those of you who take a lot of meds in the USA , will truly be in meds poverty

here it matters not for OTC meds because anyone over 60 gets their meds for free... under 60 and above 16/18 they have to pay around £10 per item on the prescription....so 3 items £30... for example..

Contraceptions however, are free to everyone... and also in the Uk you can pay for a pre prescription certificate for around £33, for 3 months, and it gives you all your meds on a prescription for that one price for the whole 12 weeks..

That sounds pretty good!

We in the US need a total revamp of access to meds and also the whole medical system. But there's a whole bunch of tangential stuff involved... all of which is way above my head... but clear enough for a fool like me to see that it needs to be done.

When we lived in Arizona we used to go to a pharmacy across the border in Mexico. Much, much cheaper. Some of the medications were "made in USA".
well yes indeed..some of the meds here are made in the USA and in China, as well as here at home. I used to work many years ago for Glaxo..now Glaxo Smith Klein (GSK)... My daughter was middle management for Roche.. Pharmaceuticals.. ..but most of our meds were sent overseas..Japan , USA, Canada..

I do not see "med poverty* on the horizon. Most maintenance meds are available as 90 day packages and u less an opioid can be renewed by a request to the pharmacy which in turn will request physician approval unless that was given with initial prescription. Physicians, pharmacies and insurances work with patients to find the correct meds at best prices. At least ours do and have done an awesome job of it.

Then there is the pantry aka the sample closet.

Patients can discuss the actual medical need. I will not take antidepressants or pain meds past 1-2 days. No! Nothing at all.

Veterans have the option of using VA services including pharmacy and mail order. To the best of my knowledge this is income based.

My monthly prescription meds cost me $732. until I spend $2000. which will happen in April.

Unfortunately this does not give anything to work with. There are too many factors to even guess.
This is due to the cost of Xarelto and Farxiga. I can get an occasional sample but this just pushes the $2000. cap farther down the line.

I saw a video on YouTube one time that showed the reaction of people in Britain once they found out the cost of meds in the US.

It just seems to me that if someone doesn't have any insurance in America they are totally screwed. Even for something simple like an inhaler.

The US doesn’t depend on China very much for medicinal product imports. We depend heavily on India, which imports 48% of the US’s medicinal products. China supplies 13% and 22% comes from Europe.

Some pharmaceutical imports to India come from China. That could be a problem. But many pharmaceutical manufacturers in India are American companies that know where to turn for alternative sources.

Meanwhile, at a price increase of 1-cent per pill, a bottle of 30 ibuprofen will likely cost 30-cents more.

The bad news is, an insulin injection could cost hundreds more, and some cancer therapies and other life-saving treatments, thousands more.

But mostly insurance companies and national healthcare systems will have to absorb those increases, and decide how to pass as much of the cost as possible on to the public.

They will push back the hardest, despite that the CCP’s greatest desire is to destroy democracy and capitalism, and impose complete authority over trade routes in the South China Sea.

So, yeah, we'll just have to wait and see what happens there.
