What would it take to get you into a new car?

I could use a new car. I'd tell him the same thing I told the salesman I bought my car from 6 years ago: I'll buy your car if you have it in white, and if you will sell it to me for the same price I can find it for elsewhere, and if you give me full Kelly Blue Book's trade in value for my car. We never quite got there, but it was close enough.

Bought a 'Lease Buyback' '21 SUV in '23 will be paid off in May '25. I never buy any auto less than 2 years old. Keep the interest & FOMO approach in check. Many years ago a retired banker gave me that sage advice.

I have probably owned more than 40 vehicles in my life, cars, vans, tow trucks, cargo vans for business. NONE of them were bought new. Our current little car is a 2012 Chev Sonic, which has just turned over 100k Kilometers ( 62,00 miles ) Obviously we don't drive very much per year. WE bought it as a 3 year old car, to replace a 14 year old car that was starting to show signs of transmission problems. Canadians tend to keep their cars longer than Americans do.

I don't get the:

"I'm so poor"

"I'm poorer than you"

Competion at this Forum.

It's so tiring.

"If you think that browsing the internet all day
and participating in Forums is being poor,
you don't know what poor is.
You should be ashamed of yourselves."

I'd like more honest pricing.

Used cars... well sure, assigning a value to each specific vehicle is subjective and subject to the amount of usage and condition.

But new? There is too much room for wiggling the price higher and adding on dubious "packages" and "warrantees" at ridiculous markups.

Dealerships seem to have a lot in common with casinos.

They can justn open the door for me lol... I need a new car...

Seriously, I've only ever bought one car on HP.. that was 3 cars ago...since then I've paid cash for them.

I need a new /newish car now.. but I'm worried about getting a good deal being as I'm just a woman on my own now.. whereas before my Soon2BX knew lots about cars...

I'm on a limited budget now so trying to make my mind up whether to get a car loan...or pay cash which will seriously deplete my savings.. never to be replaced now that I'm retired... so buying a pup, will be a massive mistake

I see all these 1000's of New and recent full sized pickups sitting on Dealer and auction lots and think this is foolish.
Then the Used Lots are packed. Just Waite a bit. These prices are Crazy high !
Then there the 100,000's of the deceased owner vehicles changing hands too.

10 + years and in this local, they rapidly become rust buckets!

Seriously tho the Metro stop is just a block from my home. easy to hop a bus if desperate.
Actually a 3 wheeler - 1 mile to shopping is easy. Just insurance on our 3 vehicles is over $3000 a year.
Then there is at least $3000 petro bill. Couple of new tires = $500 - Oil changes $200 = Near $7000
With out maintenance. Buy a new F150 = at least $7000.

Electric pedal 3 wheeler + CCL= $2000 ... :coffee: ... ... Charger bill $200 = the next 7 years. ... = 18 pack of brews a week !

A counterpoint to that is that the buyers most likely to run the guts out of a car and slack on maintenance or even let faults go uncorrected are those who plan to dump it for a new one in a year or three.
My way of thinking is to buy a lease buyback, consumers a more apt to keep them in good shape so there's no extra charges when turned in to close the lease. Companies that lease are mindful of that. It's all about money.
