You Know You're Old When...

Pharmacy Shelves.jpg
So many shelves, so many choices, so many sizes, so many alterations in package colors, so many specified uses. It's overwhelming shopping for OTCs and other things in the pharmacy, cosmetics and self-care sections. In the past, I could go directly to what I needed. Now it takes exhausting minutes to look through all of the varieties. When I was recently shopping, a lady beside me exclaimed with frustration, It takes so long now to find what I want! I could feel her wanting to stamp her foot. I nodded sadly and said, Yes, it takes so long because of all of the choices.

I sometimes feel depressed before I get to the sections. I sometimes have gone home with not exactly what I wanted but with something that will work. It didn't used to be so difficult. I know that more products have been made over the years but I also think that the huge varieties did not bother me when I was younger. Yes, I do ask for help from an associate sometimes, if I can conveniently find one.

Yesterday, in park watching son/grandson play soccer. A woman compliments my smile, I say I'm smiling at grandson. She then asks "How Old Are You?"

I realized two other people in recent months, strangers, have asked me same thing after complimenting me.

Why?

Didn't answer first two queries seriously, said either "110" or "35". Woman yesterday I said I won't answer question.

How would you handle this? It's starting to really bug me. Make that four times it happened in recent months, always after a compliment.

Smile and ask them why they asked....put it back on them.

Could they have been thinking that you don't look old enough to be a grandmother? I think it's a nice compliment. You don't have to tell them your age if you don't want to. You could say, I'm old enough to be a grandmother. 💖
